The Empire was once the largest human nation on the continent,[1] having been around during the time of the early days of the Demon King when his armies freely marauded across the land and warred with humanity without restrain. Like a majority of human society during this time, the Empire did not think highly of magic as a whole due to the influence, excessive usage, and extreme mastery of it by Demons to kill and terrorize humanity. As such, all forms of magic were deemed to be demonic techniques, and thus, open research on these techniques was considered taboo.[2]
However, Flamme, a human mage and former apprentice of the immensely powerful mage Serie, was able to influence the Emperor to approve the research of magic country-wide, and she helped establish and educate a new division of Imperial Mages. Flamme was thus responsible for helping to usher in an era in which all of mankind would be able to use magic and acquire the power to oppose the Demon King's army. For this, Flamme is known as the founder of mankind's magic.[3][4]
Due to Flamme's contributions, the Empire flourished and evolved its magic, which became integrated as an everyday aspect of the Empire's way of life.[5] The Empire developed and increased their military prowess by applying magic to their armies and continued to expand and research magic for military purposes for the next few centuries, building legions of trained mages with enough power to topple entire countries. To counteract any possibility of rebellion and uprising by these powerful mages, secret anti-magic units were established, with the Magic Special Forces being one unit officially acknowledged by the Empire.[6] Other rumored units included the Shadow Warriors and the Court of the Sacred Staff.[7]
