Summary[]

Plot Details[]

Right after the events of tnhe previous chapter, the Hero Party takes on the den of monsters in Kiesel's old village. Despite Himmel being so fired up, they are now on the retreat as the number of monsters is overwhelming. Heiter carries Eisen while Himmel carries Frieren. Himmel then tells Heiter that if he doesn't want to die, then instead of complaining he should run.

Frieren then gets Himmel's attention, as there is a dragon diving right at them. The dragon bites Eisen from Heiter's back and flings him far away. While Heiter initially cries for Eisen, he rapidly stops the faux tears, and Frieren confirms that a fall from that height wouldn't phase him. Instead, they need to worry about themselves. Himmel seems to rally, and Heiter hopefully asks him if he has a plan, but Himmel's plan ends up being to run away as fast as they can.

After the finally get away from the village, they reunite with Eisen, who has cracked a crater into the ground where he fell. Eisen, unfazed, tells Himmel that he thinks a frontal attack is useless in this situation. As a fellow muscle-head, Himmel tells him that great minds think alike. Heiter interjects that they're all thinking the same way, but Himmel brushes off Heiter's dismissive comment by complimenting his entire party for having the right idea.

Heiter then uses the spell to prevent trigger of mana detection. Frieren confirms that the monsters seem to no longer be detecting their mana, so as long as they stay out of the monsters' sight, they should be able to make it into the village. Nostalgic, Himmel states that having to rely on Heiter's stealth magic reminds him of the start of their adventure. Frieren then proudly recalls the initial dungeons they raided where everyone fell for simple traps—Himmel, remembering the same memory, tells her she's one to talk, as she was one of the chief party members falling for those traps.

The party then sneaks in from the back of the village. They decide to move amongst the ruined buildings as much as they can, at times climbing on the rafters or ducking under walls to avoid monsters. The finally make it to the village chief's home, where Kiesel remembered seeing the books about the Monument of the Goddess. Frieren uses her mana detection and detects a monster nearby, but before she can finish the party, the same dragon that swooped in and flung Eisen away earlier returns. The dragon begins to spew fire at the ground and the Hero Party separates in the chaos.

Himmel and Heiter find themselves hiding together in a building. Heiter expresses concern about being separated from Frieren and Eisen. While Himmel isn't concerned, Heiter worries that those two will try to fight their way through to the chief's home since it's right in front of them now. Himmel tells him that they'll worry about it when it comes.

The two of them then notice that they are hiding in the ruins of an orphanage, which makes Himmel reminisce about the good old days. Despite Heiter being an annoying kid with an attitude, Himmel recalls that Heiter was a good peacekeeper and took care of others. Heiter was the first person that Himmel told about his goal to become a hero. Himmel then boasts that despite Heiter not believing in him, here they now are. However, despite the lighthearted nature of Himmel's comments, Heiter sincerely apologizes to Himmel for telling him he would always be a fake and that he'd never become a real hero. He tells Himmel that he regrets not having more faith in Himmel when they were younger, as the two of them were best friends. In return, Himmel tells Heiter that his doubt only motivated Himmel, as he hates to lose. He then reassures Heiter by asking whether or not he believes in Himmel now, and Heiter is able to confidently answer him that he does.

At that moment, there is a loud boom from outside the house. Frieren and Eisen have started attacking the dragon, so Himmel and Heiter rush to join them. After defeating the dragon, they browse the books in the chief's home, with Eisen hoping that they haven't reached yet another dead end. Luckily, Frieren is quickly able to locate a record of the Monument of the Goddess, which leads Himmel to say that now it's really feeling like an adventure.
