Plot Details[]
Thirty years after the Hero Himmel’s passing, in the Drachen Region, Frieren’s Party encounters a village devastated by a dragon attack. Assuming that the village had been destroyed by a lone dragon, Frieren remarks that the villagers had it better since they were only attacked by a single dragon. She recalls that the Hero Party had been attacked by an entire thunder of dragons while traveling the Northern Plateau. But to their surprise, the villager explains that they also had been attacked by an entire thunder of dragons. He requests of Frieren to exterminate the nearby nesting dragons, but Frieren refuses, telling the villager that the village is doomed. The villager responds by saying that the village is also their home, which garners Stark and Fern’s sympathies. Frieren says that the request hinges on the reward, and the villager offers a spell which allows one to say tongue twisters without tripping over their words, which Frieren accepts.
Frieren begins by tracing their mana using a spell, and Stark expresses his appreciation for magic’s utility. Fern scolds Stark for praising Frieren too easily, saying it is bad for her education, and Frieren makes a sour face for being treated like a child.
After tracing their mana, they find the nesting dragons, which Frieren calls smaller and weaker than Solar Dragons. After defeating the dragons, Stark is healed at the village’s church, and Fern asks Frieren why she always requests a reward when helping others. Frieren recalls asking Himmel that same question, and she explains to Fern that Himmel would always accept small rewards to avoid putting them in his debt.
Meanwhile, Denken meets with Lernen and Edel. Edel transfers over the memories of the inspection of the Golden Land, and Lernen warns Denken to avoid doing anything unnecessary. Edel advises Denken to forget about visiting his wife’s grave, which Denken acknowledges. As Lernen and Edel walk away, Edel notes that Denken has no desire to give up, and Lernen equates Denken to a hero of a fairy tale for going up against Macht, the most powerful Sage of Destruction, to save his hometown.
