Nameless Greater Demon 「
Summary[]
After the barrier is broken in the previous chapter, Fern senses a demon with mana as powerful as that of Macht. That demon, Solitär, approaches an indifferent Macht and offers to assist him with his experiment. Denken decides to evacuate the people in the settlement, including Frieren, who is still asleep analyzing the memories of Macht, while Fern and Stark stay behind to hold the demon back. When Solitär encounters them, she introduces herself as a Greater Demon, to which Fern expresses grave concern since Frieren has never told her about that name. As the two sides engage in combat, Solitär keeps asking questions to both Fern and Stark, who are greatly injured by her attacks.
Plot Details[]
After Fern, Stark, and Denken watch the barrier shatter, Denken detects the presence of a demon with mana levels similar to Macht and comments how Macht is now free. The group begins evacuation procedures upon witnessing the expansion of the Golden Land. In the meantime, Solitär finds Macht in Weise and comments how he hasn't found the emotions he had been looking for, but nevertheless she does not dislike his curiosity. She offers to assist Macht in his search so that she can prove to him demons are unable to coexist with humans, and Macht replies indifferently.
Outside of Weise, the group is traveling with a wagon and an asleep Frieren when Fern mentions the presence of the demon that destroyed the barrier. Realizing the vulnerability of the large group, Fern and Stark split off to face the demon, leaving the civilians and Frieren in Denken's care. The pair eventually encounter Solitär, and the demon states that she would not like to fight, but rather, she simply wants to learn about and talk with them. She introduces herself as the Greater Demon Solitär, and Fern notes that her name is unfamiliar to both her and Stark, deducing that Solitär may be a nameless Greater Demon. She recalls Frieren's advice to flee immediately upon encountering one, due to the likelihood that a Great Demon was only nameless because every person to ever encounter them did not live to tell the tale.
Stark prepares to face Solitär, but the demon claims that she has simply lived a reclusive life and has never killed a person. Both Fern and Stark call her bluff, given that she reeks of death, and Fern immediately casts Zoltraak on her. Solitär is unaffected, having used defense magic to block the attack, and her affinity for human magic surprises Fern. Solitär becomes interested in Fern's abilities and begins hammering her with questions, however Fern ignores her and begins casting another attack. Her cast is interrupted by a giant, triangular sword piercing her shoulder, and as Stark goes to tend to her, the sky fills with more of the same swords. Solitär threatens to cut off their arms if they continue attacking, but Stark hits one of the swords out of the air and tells Fern to flee.
Solitär compliments how the pair is still willing to face her despite how much fear they possess and her continuous attacks on Stark, and she requests they teach her more about mankind.
