"Where Dragons Dare" is the twenty-seventh episode of the first season of Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero. It premiered on July 20, 2015.
Synopsis[]
Penn must overcome his jealousy of popular fellow cadet Blaze to complete his mission and finish at the top of his class at Dragon Flight School.
Plot[]
The episode starts at The Odyssey, where the heroes see Phyllis is making marionettes of herself. Boone picks up a marionette and plays with it, with the marionette shouting "Yo Coconut!". Penn asks Phyllis when did she say such quote, which she tells him it is the marionette's catchphrase. When the heroes are about to get zapped, Boone is still playing with the marionette, which Phyllis takes it from him with a robot hand before she zaps them in.
The heroes get zapped as anthropomorphic dragons in a military academy, called Wingfire Academy, as they see other dragons flying around the academy, amazing them. Penn then asks Sashi to tell the mission and she does; they are cadets competing for the title of "top dragon" in the Wingfire Academy, where dragons are training fire-breathing and aerial combat. However, a woman dragon interrupts Sashi and calls Boone "cupcake", annoying Boone. Penn points out to Boone that it is the name tag of the dragon he zapped as, so Boone tries to apologize, but the woman dragon goes away, annoyed. Sashi continues to tell the mission; she is Condor, Boone is Cupcake and Penn is Renegade, who is destined to become a prime minister by becoming a top dragon. Penn says the mission will be a piece of cake as he takes out his glasses, but his eyes get burned by the sun, so he puts his glasses on.
At the academy's base, the general, introducing herself as General Talon, tells the cadets that she will judge a head-to-head match-up between the top two cadets to determine who will be the top dragon. She then introduces Rippen and Principal Larry, who are Sargeant Mittens and General Inferno, with Rippen telling the cadets he is looking for a cadet that can defeat Renegade, the dragon Penn zapped as. Blaze appears from the door and introduces himself, amazing the cadets inside while Sashi falls in love with him. Sashi, fallen in love, asks the boys what is wrong with her face, which the boys tell her she is smiling. Larry brings the cadets outside the base, except Penn, Sashi and Boone. Boone tells Penn and Sashi that Blaze looks cool, saying that he even forgot what was cool before he saw him. Penn agrees that Blaze is charming, but he says that he is more charming than Blaze. Blaze approaches Penn and gives him a signed picture of himself signing another picture of himself as Rippen tells the two that, to compete in the top dragon competition, they must go to the final training session. Blaze tells him he isn't sure that Penn can handle the session, which Penn, annoyed, tells them he can handle it like he "handles things with a handle".
A montage shows Penn and Blaze competing each other in the training session, first starting with the fire-breathing session. Penn opens his wings and flies down the area, shooting fireballs at the targets before reaching the finish line. Blaze flies down the area, shooting fireballs, but the fireballs fly up before they hit the targets. Penn laughs at him, so he points up in the sky, revealing a figure of Blaze made of fire as it shoots a fireball that bounces through all the targets, puzzling Penn.
At the academy's base, Penn tells Blaze both will settle this tommorrow for the finals, which Blaze teasingly asks him if the finals will take place tomorrow, saying he forgot before he goes away. Penn tells Boone that Blaze isn't as great as everyone thinks he is, which Boone suggests Penn he should just focus on the mission, since he thinks he isn't going to "outcool" Blaze. The boys then see Sashi slowly following Blaze while holding a tree for cover. While she is following Blaze, he swings his hair side to side, letting out birds as he does so, which impresses Sashi, but he hears the tree she is holding, so she hides behind it so he doesn't see her. Penn wonders why Blaze has birds in his hair, since he thinks it is unsanitary. Rippen is watching them from afar as he evilly laughs, saying Penn doesn't stand a chance against Blaze. Larry tells him this is the part where he gets overconfident while Penn gets a personality, which Rippen tells him he got a point, so they decide to assist Blaze in a karaoke competiton.
At a bar, Rippen greets Blaze, asking him where is he going, which Blaze tells him Renegade, the dragon Penn, is a tough costumer, so he wants to go to his home to get some rest, but Rippen insists Renegade isn't. He encourages Blaze to sing a song to Condor, the dragon Sashi, who throws a flaming dart at a dartboard, making it explode and creating a hole in the wall. Blaze tells him that he is terrified of her, but he likes to get to know more about her, so he goes to the karaoke stand to sing a song to her. As Blaze sings, Sashi gets impressed by the song as she imagines herself with him in romantic situations, casually beating monsters in their way. After finishing the song, Blaze and Sashi go away together as Rippen goes to the stand, saying nobody can sing as impressing as Blaze. Penn, annoyed, goes towards the stand, but Boone stops him, saying his jealousy towards Blaze may get him in trouble, but Penn tells him that he isn't jealous, but that he just want to get attention. Penn goes to the stand as he takes the stand mike to sing, but, however, the spectators in the bar are unimpressed by him singing. When Penn finishes his song, he sees that everyone, except Boone, is gone and realizes that his throat is sore. Rippen teasingly tells Penn that he will have a hard time breathing fire in the competition, which Penn accuses him of tricking him.
Outside, Penn is drinking tea to cure his sore throat as he sees Sashi approaching them, telling her she chose Blaze as a boyfriend instead of him. Sashi tells him she doesn't choose anyone over him and that she can have friends before she goes away, saying how Blaze can let birds fly out of his hair. Penn tries to fly birds out of his hair like Blaze, but ends up taking out insects instead.
At the finals, Penn and Blaze are standing on a platform on a pole as General Talon announces to the spectators that the first cadet to burn all of each other's three targets and fly to the finish ring will become a top dragon. Penn and Blaze both fly as Blaze shoots a fireball towards one of Penn's targets, burning it, so he flies to Blaze's back and burns one of his targets before flying away. Blaze shoots a fireball that explodes in front of Penn, who quickly dodges it, accidentally burning a second target on his tail. Penn tries to approach Blaze, but Rippen stops him, telling him that, as an instructor, he is making sure the finals are fair, but for Blaze only. He then breathes fire towards Penn, but, thankfully, Blaze protects him, getting attacked by the fire breath, causing him to fall down because of his burned wings. So, Penn decides to save him from falling as he carries him to the finish ring, but Rippen tries to stop the two with his fire breath, so they attack him with a fire breath, burning his wing down and letting him fall down as the two go through the finish ring together. General Talon announces that, for the first time in Wingfire Academy's history, there are two top dragons as she cuts the trophy in half with her fire breath and gives the trophy's halves to Penn and Blaze. Rippen, falling, lands into the bar as he sees Larry in the karaoke stand, who then sings a song to him, ending the episode.
