"Rock and Roll" is the thirtieth episode of the first season of Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero. It premiered on August 10, 2015.

Synopsis[]

Penn is excited to be a super spy agent, but when he finds out he's actually a caveman spy with the lowest tech gadgets imaginable, his sour attitude on the situation endangers the mission.

Plot[]

The episode starts at The Odyssey, where Penn greets Phyllis, who is taking a snake out of the control booth and tells Penn he gets to become a spy, which excites Penn as he imagines himself wearing a high-tech tuxedo. He then sees the giant snake out of the control, scaring him, Boone and Sashi. Phyllis, eaten by the giant snake, tells them to not worry as she zaps them in, still inside the snake.

The heroes zap in a cave as cavemen, with Penn having a spider on his chest like a bowtie. Sashi tells him his "bowtie" is a spider, which scares him and tries to get it off, so Sashi knocks it away. Penn then sees a group of cavemen in the cave, finding out he and his team are cavemen. Sashi then tells the mission; they are agents fot the CLIA, which stands for Cavemen Low Intelligence Agency, and they have to look for a weapon of mass destruction (which happens to be a rock) and return it to the cave before the villains get it. Penn asks Sashi if the "weapon of mass destruction" could destroy the world, which Sashi tells him it is a rock, but Penn assumes that the rock could be something more, so Sashi flatly tells him it is a rock, which Penn angrily asks her what makes that rock dangerous, which Sashi tells him it is big. Penn then asks where is the rock, so Boone tries to ask the computer about the rock's location, but, being made of rock, doesn't do nothing. Sashi decides to call the assistant by tossing a rock labeled "INTERCOM" at the assistant's head. The assistant comes in as Sashi asks him about the rock's location, so he brings Nug, the satellite technician, and ties her to a rock and launches the rock with a palmtree. After landing, the assistant brings Nug back to the cave as she draws the rock's location on a rock tablet. Nug gives the heroes the rock tablet with the rock's location drawn on it as Sashi thanks her, which she thanks her back before falling unconscious.

Boone exclaims "It's Gizmo Time", saying it is his catchphrase in this world, as he introduces the gadgets to Penn, first showing a pile of small rocks called "nanorocks". He then shows Penn a pile of sticks as Penn asks Boone if they shoot lasers, which Boone tells him yes, but not for real. Penn, annoyed, asks Boone if he has anything that is remotely cool, which Boone tells him yes as he brings him to his "spy mobile", which happens to be just a log. Boone gives Penn the log's "car key", which is a pebble, as Penn presses it, making car key sounds before realizing it was just Boone making those sounds with his mouth.

The heroes are pushing the log to the top of a mountain, with Penn asking why are they pushing the log if they could just walk, which Sashi tells him the log may come in handy. At the top, the log slides down to mountain, so Penn and Sashi go towards it. However, Penn's feet get hurt due to the ground having sharp rocks, causing him to trip and roll down the mountain. Sashi mounts on the log and guides it to Penn to bring him to the log. The heroes and the log all fall down a river and then see a waterfall, so Boone drops the rock tablet to the water, thinking it will stop them from falling, but does nothing, leading them to fall down the waterfall.

The heroes go to a nearby landmass, with Penn almost getting crushed by the log. Boone exclaims "It's Gizmo Time" again, which Penn angrily tells him he is not using his catchphrase properly. Penn tells his team how disappointed this world made him, saying it is full of useless stuff. However, as they were wandering, they fall into a trap made of vines. Rippen and Larry appear sliding down a hill on a dead woolly rhino. Rippen tells the heroes he can make inventions this world's cavemen couldn't think of, such as a wig made of grass he took out from the dead woolly rhino's mouth. He then blows a horn, calling a sabertooth tiger with a steak hanging in front of it. The sabertooth tiger, attracted by the steak, walks forwards, moving a pile of big rocks towards the heroes. Penn asks Rippen why he couldn't have just feed them to the tiger, which he tells him he is an innovator. He then asks them where the rock is, which Penn tells him Boone is the only one who knows its location and will never tell him the location, but, however, Boone tells him the rock's location, much to Penn's dismay. Rippen thanks him as he pushes the woolly rhino to the top of the hill, going towards the rock. Penn tells his team how he hates learning anything from Rippen and how, instead of wishing this world was something isn't, they should make the most of what the world actually is. He then takes out the "nanorocks" Boone showed him back in the cave and tosses them at the sabertooth tiger's feet, making it trip. He then takes out the sticks, also from back in the cave, and gives one to Sashi as both rub the sticks to make fire, using it to burn the vines keeping them trapped before they get crushed by the pile of big rocks. After escaping the trap, Sashi tells Penn and Boone they need to hurry so they can prevent Rippen from getting the rock, which Penn tells her he is on a dead woolly rhino and decides to put on a spider on his chest as a bowtie, but its babies all crawl around Penn before he gets covered by webs.

Rippen finds the rock and says that he will use it to destroy CLIA, but Larry distracts him. The heroes appear mounted on the log, with Boone being the one pushing it. Rippen tells Penn he is too late and has control over the rock, but he accidentally pushes it, sending it rolling down the mountain. Rippen and Larry go towards the rock and jump on top of it, with Larry steering it with his glutes. The heroes slide down in their log as Penn presses a "button" on the log labeled "SMOKE SCREEN", prompting Boone to drag the log's branch on the floor, sending dust that cover Rippen's and Larry's faces. Penn then presses another "button" labeled "CANNON", prompting Sashi to launch a rock towards the villains, knocking them off the rock and separating Rippen's grass wig from his head. Finally, Penn presses the "NET" "button", prompting him to capture the rock with a green net. However, the rock keeps rolling as the heroes slide down, so Boone, saying "It's Gizmo Time", stops the log by dismounting from it and grab it from behind, using his flip-flops to increase the friction, decreasing the speed of the log and the rock and, therefore, stopping the rock from crushing CLIA.

The heroes go back to CLIA using the sabertooth tiger, with Rippen hanging in front of it, to propel the log they are mounting on, with the rock, with Larry tied to it, being pulled by the log. The heroes reach CLIA as they see the cavemen clapping with their feet, being weirded out. Nug sees Sashi holding a torch and approaches it, becoming attracted by the torch's fire. Nug then exclaims she will rule the world as she takes out the torch from Sashi, fleeing from the heroes before bumping against the sabertooth tiger, scaring her before it eats her, ending the episode.

Trivia[]

  • Penn's spy form from the opening sequence is featured in his secret agent fantasy.
  • The episode references The Flinstones and DreamWorks’ The Croods where cave people prehistoric objects to simulate modern objects.
  • Also, Rippen's cave villain form can be seen as an homage to the James Bond villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld, who started the tradition of bald super villains.
    • This is further referenced when Rippen invents a wig similar out of moss similar to how Grug did from The Croods.
