"Number One, Number Two" is the thirteenth episode of the first season of Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero. It premiered on March 16, 2015.
Synopsis[]
When Rippen holds tryouts to replace Larry as his number two, Penn goes undercover as Rippen’s new minion to find a village’s stolen gold.
Plot[]
The episode starts on a spaceship, where Rippen is about to kill Penn with two big guns as Larry, flying on a jetpack, lands on the floating platform Rippen is standing on. However, he does so with too much force, causing the platform to tilt and, therefore, leading Rippen to miss his shot. The shot causes the spaceship to explode while the heroes escape from a small spaceship, doing a triple fist bump before getting zapped back.
At the Fish Stick On A Stick restaurant, Rippen and Larry are zapped back by Phil as Larry exclaims he "hearts" jetpacks. In his apartment, Rippen is reading a book titled "Past Failures", showing pictures of Rippen's various failed missions, wondering if he could win a mission if he had a better "number two" than Larry. He then exclaims who said he can't have a better minion as he resumes reading, finding a picture of himself when he was younger.
Back at the restaurant, he and Larry are ready to zap in as Larry gives him a gumdrop. He then tells him that he found it in his shoe, leading Rippen to spit it out in disgust. The two then get zapped into the world, it being a medieval one, with Rippen zapping as Crossbow, this world's villain, as Larry tells the mission: they stole all the gold of a town and, to win the mission, they have to hide it from Penn in a secret place. Rippen tells Larry that he was thinking about "switching things up", leading to Larry thinking they are going to do an outfit swap, but Rippen tells him he was talking about a trail for his new minion. He tells him he has been a very bad minion and that he wants to win a single mission atleast once. Larry turns around, with his back towards Rippen, as he almost cries, but he contains his cries as he tells Rippen he understood what he said.
The heroes are zapped in a theatre, with Penn being an actor, Sashi being a set decorator and Boone being a playwright. Sashi tells the mission: they have to recover the gold Rippen, being Crossbow, stole from the town and or else the townsfolk will leave. They then hear a paperboy shouting about Crossbone needing a new "number two". Penn says Crossbow won't tell them where the gold is, so he plans to disguise himself as Rippen's new "number two" so he can know where the gold is.
Penn goes to the "Number 2 Tryous" and blends in with the candidates, wearing a mask so Rippen can't recognize him. Rippen comes riding a white horse, telling his candidates that he is looking for a better minion. He then announces that the best minion win as he shoots an arrow to the sky, hitting a dragon and causing it to fall to the ground. A montage then shows disguised Penn and Larry participating in various activities led by Rippen, with disguised Pennn succeeding in each of them while Larry fails to do so. After the montage, Rippen opens a cloche, revealing a red arrow, telling the candidates that he will give it to whoever becomes his new "number two". He tells them the new "number two" will recieve a free vacation to Jamaica and a smaller horse. He then announces the winner: disguised Penn, being called "the mysterious archer with indistinguishable accent" by Rippen. Larry gets saddened and wanders away, but Rippen tells him to wait. Larry thinks he needs him, but turns out he was just looking for the red "2" stuck on his helmet and rips it off, so he can stick it to disguised Penn's mask.
In Crossbow's cave, Rippen gives disguised Penn slob, so he greets him using his accent. Rippen asks him where is he from, so he tries to think of an answer as he nervously looks at his other minions throwing weapons towards an image of him and then tells Rippen he comes from "Wesminstershayomile". He then talks to Rippen about him finding a good place to hide the gold. Rippen claps his hand as he tells disguised Penn that he hired Leonardo da Vinci, so he can paint disguised Penn's face. He asks him to take off his mask, but he insists that he should be neckpainted. Rippen tells disguised Penn that what he said about getting his neck painted was hardcore as he and his minions laugh. Larry appears, playing a loud flute, and tells Rippen he spotted the part-time heroes. He thanks disguised Penn, since without him, he wouldn't put Larry on watcher duty.
Rippen watches Boone and Sashi with a telescope, making fun of their outfits, and shouts at them that they got them surrounded. He tells them to surrender or preish, with Sashi repeating what he said. He wonders where the hero is, so disguised Penn goes to where Penn and Sashi, taking his mask off. He tries to say what Rippen said, but he forgets what the second word was. He then goes to Rippen's side and, this time, saying they will feed them to the crows if they don't surrender. Penn starts switching sides constantly, pretending to be two people, one being the part-time hero and the other being Rippen's "number two". Finally, Penn goes to Rippen's side, without his mask this time. Rippen gets shocked at seeing him, so he commands his minions to get him. They catch Penn, but when Rippen is about to check, he sees Penn wearing his mask, so he calls the minions out for catching his "number two" instead of the part-time hero. He then tells them to guard the place the gold is hidden, turning out to be a tree.
At midnight, Penn goes to the tree, being guarded by Larry, who is sleeping, and goes inside the hiding place, but he doesn't find the gold inside. Rippen appeas, telling Penn if he really thinks he would let Larry guard the gold as he takes off Penn's mask, revealing him. He then tells him the hiding place is in another tree, pointing at it. He tells Penn that he found out he was Penn after he saw him help Leonardo da Vinci, something a true villain woud never do according to him. He then brings Penn out of the hiding place as he points his crossbow towards him. Penn tries to call his friends for help, but Rippen tells him he shouldn't rely on anyone, especially his friends. However, just as he is about to shoot him with his crossbow, Boone shouts "Action!" as their surroundings go away, revealing the entire setting to be staged by Boone and Sashi. Boone commands the guards to take Rippen's minions away. Rippen tells his "real number two" to take the gold, but he turns out to be an actor, so he takes Rippen to a jail wagon. Inside the wagon, Rippen exclaims that he felt bad for replacing Larry. Larry forgives him, turning out to be the guard riding the jail wagon. He apologizes to Larry, saying he is most loyal "bad bad guy" he got, so they hug. The two then get zapped back by Phil, who watches them in confusion. Rippen tells him they are hugging and that he has to get over it, ending the episode.
