Sean Patrick Astin (né Duke) is an American actor, who is best known for his various roles, such as Samwise Gamgee in the Lord of the Rings film trilogy, Mikey Walsh in the 1985 adventure film The Goonies, the titular character of the 1993 biographical sports drama film Rudy, Doug Whitmore in the 2004 romantic comedy-drama film 50 First Dates, Twoflower in the British telefilm Terry Pratchett's The Colour of Magic, Jim Kent in the first season of the FX horror drama series The Strain, and Bob Newby in the second season of the sci-fi drama series Stranger Things. He also voiced Raphael in Nickelodeon's 2012 series of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Chester in Cartoon Network's Bunnicula, and Kodi in Balto III: Wings of Change. He most recently starred as Ed Thompson in the Netflix sitcom No Good Nick, alongside Melissa Joan Hart.
For Disney, he voiced Hercules in Kingdom Hearts (replacing Tate Donovan), the titular character of the Playhouse Disney/Disney Jr. animated series Special Agent Oso, Benngee in Sofia the First, and Blaze in Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero. He also played Dave Morgan in Encino Man.
