Senate Committees


The Senior, Children, and Family Issues Committee (formerly the Senior Citizen Issues Committee) is a standing committee of the West Virginia House of Delegates.

Per the House Rules, West Virginia House of Delegates committees are assigned by the Speaker of the House, unless the House orders otherwise. The Speaker must designate a chair for all standing committees and may also designate a vice chair. Additionally, the Speaker serves as an ex officio voting member and chair of the Rules Committee. A majority of committee members constitutes a quorum.[1]

Function

According to the House Rules, the Senior, Children, and Family Issues Committee handles the following subject areas:

“ Proposal, revision and recodification of statutory provisions relating to all senior citizen issues and issues related to the welfare of children and families.[2][3] ”
