Clay was defeated in his bid for the District 29 seat. He was one of four candidates running for the three positions in District 29 on the ballot in the November 2, 2010, general election. He had no primary opposition. He was opposed by incumbents David Perry and Margaret Staggers, and Democrat John Pino. Only the top three vote-getters were elected.[1][2]
