2016

Fluharty's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

  • We are at a crucial time for the future of our state. A child born in the state of West Virginia is more likely to grow up in poverty than he or she is to get a college education. Meanwhile, our political process has been taken over by out-of-state interests and big money influence.
  • From the time I took office, I have been fighting for the future of our state. I have introduced legislation to curb the lobbying influences that plague our system of government. I have fought for the working class, taking to the House floor in vocal opposition to harmful legislation that takes our state backwards.
  • Young people are leaving our state at an alarming level. Those that remain default on their student loans at the third highest rate in the country. That is why I introduced the “State in the State Act” which finally gives an opportunity for recent college graduates to stay in West Virginia by providing tax incentives to employers for helping to pay down their employees’ student loan debt. With this type of forward thinking legislation, we will have young people entering our economy at a younger age instead of opting to raise their families outside of their home state. That is the forward thinking our state needs and the type of forward thinking I will always provide as a legislator.[14]
—Shawn Fluharty[15]

2012

Fluharty's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[16]

  • Phasing out of the Car Tax
  • Jobs
  • "Implementing a local business incubator"
  • "Improving our intellectual capital"
  • Committed of Domestic Energy
  • "Local jobs for local people"
  • Making education a priority again in our state
  • Supporter of the Death Penalty

2010

Fluharty's website highlighted the following campaign themes:

  • Jobs - "... we need a system that provides aspiring entrepreneurs with the basic infrastructure to develop their ideas."
  • Education - "In order to recruit and retain good, quality teachers to our state, we must assure that those who choose such an important profession are awarded with a competitive salary above the national average."
  • Healthcare - "... by strengthening our focus on health and physical education in schools, we are not only supporting our education system, but also our healthcare system."

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in West Virginia

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
