|My name is Josh Holstein. I am from Ashford, WV in Boone County. I am the son of generations of coal miners, the family member of hard working people, and the friend of many of who have struggled. As a young man, I experienced an average life that most in Boone County can connect with. I have spent countless hours sitting on porches with friends and family, playing music across the state in a couple Gospel music groups, and campaigning for Conservative candidates throughout the state. I grew up in a household that held strong values of family and faith, and I quickly learned the importance of those values. I experienced the hardships of a devastated economy and helped bear the burdens my parents were facing when times got tough. I am a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Sherman High School and currently attend Marshall University studying Economics BBA. Throughout my childhood and into adulthood, I quickly found that politics and public service was my niche. I have and will continue to work to institute Conservative Values of Pro-Life, Free Markets, Limited Government, Second Amendment Rights, and Community Service.
- Pro-Life, Pro-Second Amendment, and Pro-Trump
- Infrastructure Repair, Investment in Education, and Working to Curb the Drug Crisis
- Transparency and Roads-to-Prosperity
I am very passionate about the values and individual freedom side of lawmaking. For example, I value defending and protecting Life, Liberty, and Property. I am Pro-Life, Pro-Second Amendment, support Religious Freedom, and much more.
I think the number one quality that a candidate must possess is the desire to be transparent. Without transparency there is no honesty, trust, integrity, or leadership. I will be the most transparent delegate this district has even seen.
I come from a lower-middle class family, I am young and a first generation college student, and I have never held public office and beholden to no organization or special interest. I think these qualities provide me with a unique perspective that most legislators can not share with their constituents. In other words, I feel that I am able to connect with my district's constituents than any other candidate in the race. I think that this is the defining quality of my candidacy that will make me a successful office holder.
I would like to leave a legacy of Constitutional Conservative values. I want to help as many people as possible by reducing the size of government and removing the stumbling blocks that comes from government overreach.
The WV Legislature consists of two branches; the House of Delegates and the Senate. The House is comprised of 100 members who represent small districts throughout the state, whereas the Senate represents much larger districts that are often multiple counties. The House of Delegates allows members to bring the needs and desires of their specific, localized constituents to the legislature which may not be addressed if there were a unicameral legislature.
I think that having experience in politics can have its positive and negative benefits. I have never ran for office before. I feel that I can bring a unique perspective to the legislature that our district has lacked for a long time. As a young Christian Conservative, I believe in being forthright and honest concerning my positions on the issues.
I do believe it is beneficial to build relationships with other legislators. One of the biggest reasons to form relationships with other legislators is to get legislation passed that can bring positive attention to each of their respective districts.
Former State Senator and Congressman Evan Jenkins has always been a role model and someone that I would use as a guide to exhibit integrity, honesty, and public service to the people that I love.
I want to work for the people of Boone County and the People of West Virginia. If that were ever to lead me to this positions, then I would absolutely do it.

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
