Karen L. Litkovitz is a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. She was first appointed to this position on October 14, 2010. Her current term expired on October 13, 2018.[1][2]
Biography and Education
Litkovitz was born in Lorain, Ohio. She received a B.S. degree in statistics and business pre-law from Bowling Green State University. She then received her J.D. degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 1984.[1]
Career
Litkovitz began her legal career in 1984 as a law clerk to U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert Steinberg of the Southern District of Ohio. She then worked from 1986 to 1993 as a senior attorney for the Legal Aid Society of Greater Cincinnati, where her practice focused on Social Security disability, public assistance, domestic relations, and housing law. She returned to work for Magistrate Judge Steinberg in 1994 as a law clerk in chambers. She then became a pro se law clerk. In 2002, she became a career law clerk for U.S. Magistrate Judge Timothy Hogan, as well as a pro se law clerk. She was appointed to the district court as a federal magistrate judge in October of 2010.[1]
