2016

Dodds' campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Education

Teacher pay

  • Teacher’s pay and benefits need to be as competitive as in other strong states. Great teachers should be rewarded. Teachers should get a tax credit for out of pocket expenses they spend for their students or classroom. We must make sure this happens now because the quality of the education today directly impacts the quality of our economy tomorrow.

Home Schooling

  • Home-schooled students legal guardians should get a $500 tax credit, per home-schooled student, per year.

Passing stopped school busses

  • This is a huge issue. There is no excuse. The recent legislature has attempted to address this. All the laws in the world are useless if they are not obeyed.
  • I would propose a $1000 first offense fine.
  • I would propose all school buses have a reflective sticker on each bumper stating: “$1000 FINE” To pay for these stickers, I would reach out to WV and nationwide printers to make donations of such stickers to offset the costs.

Economic Growth / Budget

Jobs

  • A solid tax base of workers is essential to the survivability and future of the state. If this base continues on its downward spiral, there is no question the state will follow and there will be no hope for prosperity. If the tax base grows, the financial strength of the state will grow.
  • I believe all state legislatures must work non-partisan, tirelessly and endlessly to provide the state infrastructure and incentives for businesses to thrive and grow. They must put special interest aside and do what is truly best for the future. West Virginia should be the state that corporations look to relocate or expand to, rather than exporting jobs out of the country. One hundred delegate minds working together can without question make West Virginia the most attractive place to have a company, factory or business.

Arbitration

  • I would review and call to review all arbitration laws and ensure that they never override West Virginia’s court system or bar use of West Virginia’s courts by making it not legal to waive one’s right to a trial within the state of West Virginia.

Law enforcement

  • I wish to see law enforcement welcomed and respected by all people. I wish to see West Virginia’s law enforcement as the most respected in our nation. I strongly support this.
  • I would propose all law enforcement be in service trained on the people's constitutional and civil rights.
  • I would propose all law enforcement be in service trained on community relations.
  • I would propose requiring body cameras for all law enforcement for public record.[5]
