Rory Dugan is a character who appears in the Disney animated series, Gargoyles.
Background[]
Rory is a young man who lives in Ireland part of the Dugan family. During his life, he did not know about his true heritage, had completed school, and did not know any trades. The Banshee was aware of his true nature and wanted to ensure Rory so that she would not have to fight against him (Cu Chullain) again when she disguised herself by her human alias "Molly" and attempted to steer away from Cu Chullain being reborn.
Later, after Rory rediscovered his heritage, he reincarnated into the Irish folk hero, Cu Chullain using the Gae Bolga to reincarnate himself as Ireland's greatest hero which he used to defeat the Banshee once again, still serving as the reborn hero to be a protector of Ireland once again. This spear when activated allows Rory to transform into Cu Chullain complete with armor.
Role in the series[]
In "The Hound of Ulster", Rory catches up with Molly, the Banshee's human alias who was caught shoplifting where Rory discusses with Molly that he doesn't bother doing his thieving ways anymore, telling her that he is done with school, but still does not know any trades, having no memory about his heritage, telling Molly that it is hopeless just before Rory returns to his family's home telling her that he has no time for listening to the legend of the Hound of Ulster, to which Molly leaves. That night, Rory suddenly hears a mysterious howl seeing an image of Cromm-Cruach in his vision only for it to disappear. He then finds out that Bronx was howling along, followed by the Manhattan Clan (consisting of Goliath, Angela, and Elisa Maza) exploring Ireland while being bothered by the Banshee's very loud wailing, leading the group to look for the Banshee.
Soon as Rory returns home, his father is upset for returning home late which Rory tells him to know if he heard something strange last night which his father replies to him that he knows of a legend about the Hound of Ulster, telling Rory that it was just a police car's siren he heard regarding about the police chasing thieves last night (presumably referring to Molly shoplifting a jacket). Seeing that Rory is lacking his heritage, he tells him to make something of himself which Rory and his father get into an argument, telling him to remember his heritage just before Rory leaves in anger. The next night, Rory tries to look for Molly only to hear a strange growl which he stumbles upon Bronx, mistaking him for the Hound of Ulster which he tries to escape from him in fear only to fall into a ravine.
Rory suddenly manages to regain his consciousness after falling off where Bronx wakes him up, which Rory finds out that Bronx is being friendly. Seeing the top of the ravine from high above, Rory asks Bronx to find a way out of the ravine which Rory rides on him, just as Bronx is able to climb up the top of the ravine to bring Rory to safety. As Rory catches up with Bronx while trying to look for Cairn na Chullain, Molly encounters Rory again only to find out that Molly is the Banshee, revealing her true nature. Rory then returns back home the next day introducing Molly to his father just as Rory recaps of his encounter with Cromm-Cruach as well as a mysterious tomb known as "Cairn na Chullain", tomb of Ireland's greatest hero Cu Chullain who saved Ireland from the Banshee 2,000 years ago which Rory plans to go to Cu Chullain's tomb. However, his father warns him that there are some things in this part of the world he should avoiding tampering with, much to Rory attempting to go to Cairn na Chullain with Molly which could lead him to danger.
Upon arriving at Cairn na Chullain with Molly following him, Rory sees an image of Cu Chullain which suddenly disappears to which as a mysterious spear shines next to him, Rory recognizes his heritage and grabs the Gae Bolga, the Spear of Light, reincarnating himself as Cu Chullain once again which Molly transforms into the Banshee just as the two engage into a confrontation at the tomb. A battle between Cu Chullain and the Banshee begins outside the tomb, followed by Bronx taking his role as the Hound of Ulster who assists the reincarnated Cu Chullain attempting to defeat the Banshee only for her to transform into Cromm-Cruach, the death worm. During battle, Cu Chullain defeats Cromm-Cruach in combat. With the Banshee defeated, Cu Chullain transforms back into Rory Dugan, which he thanks the Manhattan Clan for helping him remember his heritage once again just before the Manhattan Clan leaves.
