Fara Maku is a character featured in the Disney animated series Gargoyles.
Background[]
One of the two werepanthers in Nigeria, Fara Maku served as a teacher to Tea Gora, with whom he fell in love. When Tea went to live in the city of Abuja, Fara Maku did not wish her to leave and attempted to find Anansi to make a pact with him, asking the spider deity to turn him into a werepanther so he could do the same thing for Tea, to which the spider agreed. As a result, Fara Maku placed the Mark of the Panther on Tea in her panther form, turning her into a werepanther as well. After realizing what he did to her, Tea attempted to hunt him down in revenge leading him to the abandoned city of Kara Digi, where Fara Maku learned from Diane and Elisa Maza of his selfish behavior. With Anansi defeated, Fara Maku realized that he must make amends with Tea for the acts he did earlier. Afterwards, Fara Maku and Tea serve as the protectors in Nigera - albeit werepanthers.
Role in the series[]
In "Mark of the Panther", Fara Maku plans on telling Diane that they will free the ceremonial panther after the feast. Fara Maku replies to Diane Maza that the legend of the Panther Queen was the best one he has ever heard. However, when Tea Gora and her group of poachers arrive, Fara Maku confronts Tea telling him not to kill the panther in its cage. Fara Maku then transforms into a werepanther and attempts to ward off Tea in revenge. During a battle, Elisa Maza attempted to stop Tea from killing Fara Maku in his panther form trying to stop Tea and her group of poachers from attacking him. So as soon as Fara Maku escapes, Tea and her hunting group attempt to chase after him only for the Manhattan Clan to foil the poachers and throw them into a cage where the ceremonial panther was at (also freeing the panther) while Tea continues chasing Fara Maku across a canyon.
Arriving at a canyon, Tea attempted to kill Fara Maku telling him that she used to love him but feared that he betrayed her only for Goliath to counter her attack to prevent her from killing Fara Maku. In a fit of rage, Tea transforms into a panther just as she falls into a river, though she manages to survive and continue chasing Fara Maku into the ruins of Kara Digi. Soon as Fara Maku transforms into his human form, Tea who transformed back into her human form threatened to kill Fara Maku with a spear only for Bronx to counter her, followed by Goliath breaking her spear. Goliath asks Tea about the reason why she is hunting Fara Maku, so Tea then recaps of the reason she was hunting Fara Maku all along during her life at the city of Abuja where she had a hard time adjusting into the city ever since the negative effect of the Mark of the Panther, which led Tea to chase after Fara Maku in panther form while Fara Maku recaps of his relationship with Tea in this moment when he made a pact with Anansi. As Diane tries to figure out who placed the Mark of the Panther, Anansi appears and tells her that he was the one who did it.
As soon as Tea confronts Anansi, Fara Maku tells him that he will serve him for the rest of his life as a werepanther just as the Manhattan Clan confronts Anansi for what he did to the two of them. During the battle, Fara Maku transforms into a werepanther and attempts to kill Anansi in a fit of rage which Anansi wraps him up in the webbing. During the battle after Fara Maku gets caught in spiderweb in his panther form, Tea attempted to rescue him only to be countered. The Manhattan Clan worked together to defeat him by cutting the spider web, causing Anansi to fall into the ground, followed by Goliath impaling Anansi with a spear given by Diane. With Anansi defeated, Fara Maku then makes amends with Tea Gora, getting along with each other serving as protectors of the jungles of Nigeria, just as the two were able to get along in despair.
