Egads, how is it already Friday?

Mom and Molly made it back safely and have settled right back in. Molly is currently snuggled in the blankets at the foot of my bed, because she gets Lonely when her favorite person (my mom) is asleep/otherwise unavailable.

Room cleaning saga got some very good work done; I managed to clear off most of a tall table construct on the side of my room and added a new bookshelf there, both of which are pretty great. The bookshelf has allowed me to relocate a lot of DVDs and some books that I had piling up in various places; things still aren't completely organized (another bookshelf wouldn't hurt, truth be told), but they're much better than they were.

On top of that, the table space that I cleared is a great location for my laptop! Which was actually a pretty major motivation in getting that space cleared off; the built-in trackpad buttons are starting to go a little haywire, so attaching an old mouse and using that instead helps a lot. I haven't been able to make myself move my laptop over there more permanently yet (baby steps!), but I have actually been using it, rather than not using it at all, the previous state when that table was elbow-deep in Stuff. Today I picked up a tall office chair to use with it secondhand, which is an improvement over the spare kitchen stool I had been using previously. It's not my ideal office chair (I want one with breathable mesh instead of pleather cushions), but for a measly $8, I'm happy enough to make do.

I've still got stuff to clear out from under the table, and I could definitely stand to do some digging in both my crafting corner and in my closet, but my room is still looking a lot better!

Welp, turns out I'm neither flying to Texas, nor driving there. Mom called this evening to report that she was Done and had started driving home already, so I could cancel my car rental (which I did end up getting).

Honestly, I'm not entirely surprised by this turn of events. I love my grandma, but she's pretty high maintenance; Mom's younger sister has also apparently been staying/helping out a bit, Mom's relationship with her is... tense at best.

Anyway, I expect to see Mom and Molly the dog sometime tomorrow probably. Pampering them (especially Mom) will likely be on the agenda.

(Honestly, I lucked out; I did not win the war against a major hyperfixation phase(?), and the less said about how much sleep I didn't get over the past few days, the better.)
soc_puppet: Sonoko from Detective Conan, looking back nervously (Not sure what you mean)
I am trying desperately to reset my non-work-night sleep schedule to somewhere I go to bed earlier, because I have an early morning on Monday to drive down to Texas.

So far results have been... mixed.

Brain: Say, it's been a while since the Miraculous Ladybug shine started wearing off; how would you like a new hyperfixation?

Me: ...Is it Avery and Zeek? Or something else that's more productive than consumptive?

Brain: No, sorry ♥

Me: Then... no? No, thank you? Like, yes in concept, very much so, I do so much better when I have a fandom, but uh. Right now is... Look, I just really need my executives to actually be functioning right now, because Shit's Goin' Down. Any chance we can bookmark this stuff for later?

Brain: ...I will get you when you least expect it and least want it. Just you wait.

The circumstances )

So. That is why I will need to be rationing my executive function very carefully over the next week or so, potential hyperfixations be damned. I would allow myself more slack if I were at least getting something more out of it, like some worldbuilding or crocheting done, but not if it's only "breathing in". I definitely need to breathe in, but for my own sake, I'll have to temporarily settle for quick gulps of air, at least for the next few days, and maybe a nice, deep breath on like. Wednesday.

Burgeoning willpower, I'm counting on you!

Did some more cleaning (in the proper order) today, and the "table" against the north side of my room was the main focus. I cleared the whole thing off, wiped it down, got rid of a bunch of trash, shoved a bunch more papers that I need to sort into a cardboard box, and generally rearranged things. The table is now much clearer and better organized, and though there's still a touch of chaos, there's enough room that I can make space on it to put stuff while I sort out the desk on the west wall between that table and my bed.

What's wigging me out a bit is that the wall the table is against now looks too blank. It took me a little bit to figure out, but I finally realized it's because I moved a painting I used to have hanging above one end of the table to be above the opposite end of the table. I've stacked some DVDs and so forth on the table under where the painting used to be, but they aren't stacked near high enough to cover the area where the painting used to be. I'm hoping to get a bookshelf to put on the table and kill two birds with one stone, but finding the right one may take a while.

In the mean time, I may put something else where the painting used to hang. Finding a good balance between "All this visual noise is stressing me out" and "All this blank space is stressing me out" is going to be interesting!

Coworker M got some logistics wrong today over cookies we need tomorrow, and neglected to tell Lead Cook J before leaving.

Lead Cook J proceeded to heap praise on me when I reacted by saying, "Welp, I guess I'll be spending the remaining hours I'm scheduled today making cookies," instead of complaining about it, and then looking for solutions when the numbers turned out to be even further off than we'd initially thought.

And like. I do feel a little bit responsible, because I can vaguely remember Coworker M mentioning to me that not everything was upstairs after all, but I was distracted with another project. And Coworker M was definitely irresponsible in not telling Lead Cook J what she told me, and leaving him to assume that she had, in fact, gotten everything we need for tomorrow from downstairs, the way she said she would. And damned if I'm not tickled that my efforts are being noticed and celebrated.

I guess it just feels a little surreal? Some of this is kinda just. Leftover survival stuff from the previous pastry chef, who wouldn't let us leave if there was still work to do. (Within certain parameters, but still.) Complaining about it would get me exactly jack shit, while doing the work would get the work done. Part of it is also one of my personal workarounds for my executive dysfunction; I've learned that, if I acknowledge my "I don't want to do the thing," and accept that, and that doing the thing sucks, then I can set it aside and skip over it to "I am going to do the thing", and that makes doing the thing easier.

So it feels kinda weird to be praised for this now? Good weird, not MAGA weird. But yeah. Still weird.

I think I'll take it, though.

This year, Molly the dachshund-terrier mix decided/realized that she's afraid of fireworks. I'm reasonably sure that some of them were louder and/or closer this year than they have been in past years, which contributed to things; I ended up letting her stay the night with me on July 4th and 5th, because people were still doing fireworks on Friday, because Friday. There were still more fireworks going on Saturday night, but I had to turn Molly down for that one, since I had already lost a good chunk of sleep to her the previous two nights and had work on Sunday morning.

I ended up nearly having a meltdown at work on Sunday, partly due to not managing to catch up on sleep on Saturday, and partly due to... Well. A bit of a mess of timing, really. )

Anyway, pretty sure a lot of that can be chalked up to the "executive dysfunction" column of ADHD, which doesn't make dealing with it easier, but at least I know the probable reason why.

Today I had a much more relaxing day. I went out and picked up some supplies at Joann's, a couple of items from the grocery store, got deputized to take care of the dog, and then got a nice, long afternoon nap in before dog walk o'clock at 5pm. I'm hoping for even more relaxing tomorrow.

    Okay, self, repeat after me:

We should not stay up and ink a few more drawings for our commission. We can do that tomorrow afternoon. Or some other time of day after we wake up! We finished the majority of the drawings for the commission, and we have plenty of time to finish the last two. Even if we didn't, our friend will understand. Worst case scenario, we can probably dig up some old art and use that. Right now, you need to sleep, and/or do things that don't make your hands hurt.

    Got it?

    Okay.

    You can do this.

Spent a couple of hours putting together community advertisements, which drained my mental batteries hardcore. So I followed it up by going physical and changing my sheets 😂 It's important to balance those scales, after all.

My new sheets are white, which isn't my first choice, but they were on sale, and it's hard to find Twin XL sheets in physical stores in the first place. I thought a while abut dying them, but honestly the old sheets needed off sooner than I needed the new ones to be a different color, and my only other fitted sheet options are either A) Ripped and therefore not usable as sheets, or B) Flannel, and therefore ill advised for summer use. And it is definitely summer weather time. The new sheets are not quite as light/cooling as I might like for summer weather, but they still do the trick better than flannel.

I am awarding ten imaginary bonus points to myself for: A) Realizing that staying up all night (or even just a couple of hours) sewing was not exactly a winning idea, and B) Actually going to bed instead. Good decision making, self! As a reward, you can sew up to a few hours tomorrow, during regular waking times.

    Take that!

FTH pattern number one is complete and turned in!

I also typed up two more crochet patterns that have been sitting on my "to transcribe" pile for a good while now. One of them much longer than the other, but still! They are complete, and that's the important part.

Now I'm just going to wait to hear back from Winning Bidder One about when I can post the pattern to [personal profile] hooked_on_anime. They get exclusive viewing for up to six months, so I might not be posting it until my birthday, but hey! The hard part is done. We're going to pretend that logging into Hooked on Anime and making a post is not somehow equally difficult to creating a complete crochet pattern for an amigurumi that turned out roughly the size of Molly the dog. (Thanks-but-not-really, executive dysfunction.)

Next up, I contact the runner-up bidder and let them know I'll be starting on their pattern next! I'll probably also be taking a couple weeks off before starting their pattern as well, because I'm Worth It, but hey! Still good to let the other person know what's up and when things can be expected, etc.

Brain: Hey, you know what we should do instead of taking a shower right now?
    Me: What.
Brain: Type up some crochet patterns! There's several we've been meaning to get to, and that's including the first of our FTH patterns that is nearly done.
Me: ...Listen. I need to shower. It is very important that I shower, and today that also includes washing my hair. I will take a moment to go grab our pattern book from the crafting nook and put it next to the laptop so we can type up a pattern or two, but we can only start transcribing after the shower. Understood?
    Brain: ...Fine.

Me: *finishes showering* Okay, time to type up patterns now!
Brain: Nah, don't feel like it anymore.
Me: ...Flames. Flames, on the sides of my face—

Edit: Ha-ha, the hippo pattern is now typed up! Victory for me! 😈

    Phew!

Uploaded all my Part 3 rats to [community profile] moodthemeinayear, so they're now all in the same place, yay! Going forward, I think I'll start putting the names of the moods in my cut text over here when I share rats, though, so it'll be easier for me to sort through things 😅

I also did some minor organizational work and added some new tags to the community. The goal is to make it easier to scroll through and see the moods everyone shares at the community, as well as, eventually, any finished/completed mood themes. In that post, I did ask for suggestions for tags to use to indicate whether a given mood theme would be up for general use, was only for the creator's use, or if it might be okay for other people to use under certain conditions (like "You can use my mood theme, just please ask first!"); if you have any ideas, I'm all ears! Similarly, I'm interested in any other suggestions for what might be useful tags over there. I'm thinking possibly "Original Mood Theme" and "Fandom Mood Theme"?

For now, though, it's time to get ready for bed!

  • Went and boosted the [community profile] summerofthe69 poll over at [community profile] fictional_fans, [community profile] fandomcalendar, and [site community profile] dw_community_promo! The response number has since gone up by six, which is a fair chunk, considering it had been sitting at fourteen responses for a couple of days ✌ I'll be honest, I'm surprised by how well a few of the options are doing, but not unpleasantly so. I'm also a little surprised by how badly a few of the other options are doing, but I'm still sure we'll get a good mix of themes this time around, so I'm not complaining, either.

  • I scribbled up a very basic Dreamsheep mood theme, with eighteen sheep moods (the root fifteen plus the three most populated branches), and while I don't know if I'll be able to finish it before [community profile] 3weeks4dreamwidth is up, I think it'll be fun to try! A Dreamsheep mood theme was on my mood theme daydream list, so I'm pretty pleased with myself.

  • I seem to have failed spectacularly at my goal of disentangling myself from Tumblr 😩 It was going pretty well, and then April 1st came around, and now... Well, I don't have any queue anymore, so that's. Something, I guess. Still, I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for news of Matt's return, and any subsequent consequences.

  • I took the opportunity to move a little money from my savings to my checking account today. My savings account was doing considerably better than I thought it was when I checked it to do my taxes, and with all of the car stuff I've had in the past twelve months, I feel reasonably justified in giving my checking account a transfusion.

I think that's it for today! I've got a long weekend ahead of me with Mother's Day Brunch on the horizon (work Thurs and Fri, Sat off, hardcore work Sun), so hopefully I'll be able to keep up with community stuff in the meanwhile.

It has been nearly ten days since Easter, and finally my knees no longer consistently hurt going up and down stairs.

I need to Do Something About This.

(Easter was a lot of walking and lifting and general work at my job. It was compounded by not getting as much rest as I wanted the next day, since my mom had to go in for a colonoscopy and needed me to walk the dog, who was very eager to Go All The Places.)
soc_puppet: Dreamsheep, its wool colored black and shot through with five diagonal colored lines (red, yellow, white, blue, and green, from left to right), the design from Dreamwidth user capri0mni's Disability Pride flag. Part 3 has started over at [community profile] moodthemeinayear! I'm a bit discombobulated at the moment, due to shaking my schedule up significantly today (three guesses why, and none of them are "work"), but I did manage to get the weekly mood announcement post up. We've got a rough few weeks over there as we get through nine variations on "Angry", which honestly makes me glad I've been skipping around so much 😅

(Rassa-frassa ADHD emotional regulation bullshit. You know that thing where writers and artists will sometimes smush their faces into the emotion of the characters they're depicting at a given time? Yeah, that happens with my actual mood sometimes, though moreso when I'm absorbing media than creating it.)

I did take the time to draw out another four moods tonight! None of them are on schedule, since I didn't have them written down and wasn't able to get to my phone (I had a snoozing dog blocking access to the phone in my pocket), but they're still sketched out and are for some actual moods, so I'm taking the win. I'll be making a physical list of the Part 3 moods to work off of shortly, so hopefully I won't have that problem again 😛 I also digitized and colored another four. I've got one left to go of the moods I have photos of, and then I need to photograph more sketches to work off of. All in all, I'd say I was pretty productive with this mood theme tonight!

Oh, I've also finally decided what show I want to watch while working on crochet patterns: I'm planning a re-watch of Assassination Classroom. I still haven't gotten the universal remote to work (well, not on the right TV), but since all the discs will be from the same production, the volume should stay pretty consistent. I'm tentatively optimistic about beating the executive dysfunction to get to work on that! I really do need to start in earnest soon 😅
soc_puppet: Pixelated Habitica avatar decked out in full Mushroom Druid wear, riding a Dusk Badger mount through a forest with a pet Base Snake (Meme Warrior)
I'd initially been planning to rotate my mattress and change the sheets tomorrow, but decided on a whim to do it tonight instead. Take that, executive dysfunction!

What am I avoiding, you ask? Never mind that, I have nice new sheets to sleep on now!

(Yeah, I have comments to respond to and promotional posts to make about Sot69 and Mood Theme in a Year. The posts at least I'm comfortable waiting until tomorrow to get to.)
