Feeling Crafty
Jan. 23rd, 2022 09:16 pmAfter getting tired of the phone holder I'd been using for a month or two, I finally decided it wasn't worth keeping; it put my phone off-balance, made it slightly clunkier in my pocket (though not nearly as much as a PopSocket or whatever), it couldn't be positioned properly due to the construction of my phone case, and the elastic strap was honestly uncomfortable. So, last night, I ripped it off and put together a little something that, so far, is working much better! It's a loop of ribbon that links through openings in the outside shell of my phone case. It fits my hand better and is much flatter in my pocket and on tables. (I'll see about getting a photo later.)
I've also reached the end of my patience with my middle-of-the-sheet garter workaround (where I strapped the middle of my fitted sheet to a pillowcase under my mattress and then to the other side of the middle of my fitted sheet, to hopefully keep it in place while I toss and turn in the process of trying to fall asleep). Honestly, the sheet straps aren't quite made for it, and while they hold on pretty well, one or two of them tends to come off of the fitted sheet about once or twice a month.
My current plan: Get some cloth belting/strapping (done), fit sheet strap ends to either end of two of those, and sew loops of strategically placed ribbon to either side of the middle of my fitted sheets. I'll be able to measure out the strapping to exactly the length I want, so, unlike with the pillow, it shouldn't be an couple inches loose (which is still better than nothing at all, mind). And with the ribbon loops, I'll be able to secure the sheet strap ends to something that'll actually go under the mattress; part of the problem, I'm pretty sure, is that my current fitted sheets are only just long enough to reach the bottom of my mattress, so the ends of the sheet straps stick out and come loose when jostled. This project should fix that.
Probably not tonight, though! Too tired. Maybe this weekend!
Two other final crafty projects: I sewed a couple of buttons in strategic places on one of my spare work hats, with the plan of hooking my face mask ear loops around them and relieving some pressure there (mixed results so far, but not terrible); and I sewed a small pillow to tuck between my knees while I'm sleeping. I've honestly been instinctively using bunched up blanket for that purpose for years, and figured it was about time I get something I can move around with more easily 😂 It doesn't look perfect, but I didn't spend a whole lot of time or money on it, and it should be fine for what I'm planning, at least!
