Last week for Community Thursdays, I was too burnt out to do more than make a general recs post on [community profile] queerly_beloved, and didn't even record it here. This week, though, I posted a proper rec for the podcast and graphic novels, The Adventure Zone: Balance! (Why yes, I did just finish listening to the full storyline for the fourth time. Time for the bonus episodes!)

I also did some maintenance at [community profile] kittens_and_spitefic, clarifying and updating some rules/policies (public), making a post where users can request help wording their prompts (community locked), and making a prompt post of my own (community locked, 18+).

I think I probably have more maintenance in my future, though, to figure out how to approach prompts that would welcome both SFW and NSFW content. Having people make two separate posts, one age restricted and one not, seems like a recipe for confusion at best. My current thought is to separate the content request types into "NSFW preferred" or just plain "NSFW" and 18+ age restriction for posts where the nature of the request/prompt is NSFW (requests for certain sexual positions, for example), "SFW only" sticking with posts where the requester doesn't want any NSFW content, and a new "Mixed ratings" tag for posts where the prompt is open but not limited to NSFW content (requests that add a suggestion of something that would be hot at the end, but the prompt itself need not include), and having people use the new content-hiding arrows for any NSFW fills for those. Like what I'm doing with the public topic suggestion post.

I'll admit, this is slightly more figuring out than I was hoping to do after launching the community, and I don't quite relish updating again quite so soon after the previous announcement, but it has been less than a month, so honestly it's probably not too bad. Good to get this stuff figured out ASAP, even if it wasn't before the community launched properly.

Anyway, yeah. That's what I have to report for Community Thursdays this week!

Today in Posts I'm Too Scared to Make on Tumblr:

In response to this post, about people who are questioning their gender and/or sexual identity and come to the conclusion that they are cis and straight (and have no evidence to suggest that they're intersex).

What place do straight people have in [community profile] queerly_beloved?

If we accept questioning people (and my conscience says we must), then we also need to accept that some of them might find the answer is they're not queer/LGBTQIAP+. It's rare, I know, especially for folks who spend a good amount of time asking themselves, but they do exist.

I don't want to necessarily kick them out of a community where they've found support that they need, and where they can potentially support others as well; if they stay, how might their role in the community change?

My inclination is, "Straight, cis, perisex people are allowed, but don't make any post all about you unless you have actual, first-hand lived experience with an issue (such as questioning your gender/sexuality and/or supporting a queer/LGBTQIAP+ loved one, especially at the intersection with other marginalizations), and prioritize non-straight voices on non-straight issues." Do you think that would fly? Should I open the discussion up on the community?

Halp!

(I've been thinking about this since the inception of Queerly Beloved, okay, and I've only gotten enough courage to post about it now. So, uh, thank you Alex for reblogging that post ♥)

I am officially treating my own journal as a "figure this shit out" place for [community profile] queerly_beloved.

Tag bundles:

* Art (Edits, painting, drawing, lineart, fanart, etc)
* Writing (Prose, poetry, fanfic, nonfiction, essay, etc)
* Fandom (available fandoms, added as needed)
* Recommendation (Media, store, product, ???)
* Media (Book, movie, TV show, podcast, play, etc)
* Identity (Any queer or intersectional identity)
* Content Warning (The standard bigotries, the big warnings and phobias, plus NSFW and requests within reason)
* Resource (Either for identities or by type (information, links, fundraisers, organizations), can't decide which)
* Community (Mod posts, introductions, announcements, event planning)

Now to figure out how nested tags work...

Edit: Tutorial found. Somewhat. Between this and other stuff, I'm sure I'll figure it out.

Ta-dah!

Argh I am so bad at coming up with these rules, why did I decide to do this. *looks at all the exclusionists on Tumblr, making life hell for people who could really use some supporting instead* Oh, right. Okay, self, let's carry on, then.

Let's see what I can come up with here... )

Okay, I think that'll hold for the moment. Any concrit is very much welcome, but please be gentle (and assume good faith), as ADHD and Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria are made of terrible. I'm not going anywhere if you need to get your Hulk Smash on, but I will need a bit more time to sort myself out and get back to work. Thank you in advance!

I personally still like Inclusionists, Inc, but we've had some folks who aren't as fond of it, and I wanted to open the floor to other ideas. Most suggestions so far have been variations on Inclusionists, Inc, but I've also come up with some of my own just to cover the bases better. I personally would love to keep some form or reference to "inclusionists" in the name, just to be extra explicit about what this community is meant to be, but I wouldn't have included the other options if I didn't think they'd work, too.

I've picked ticky boxes so you can vote for as many or as few as you want; you can also put more than one suggestion into the text, if you have several ideas. The results will be available to everyone, but no one, not even me, will have access to who voted for what.

Polls made by Dreamwidth are only open to registered users. I'm not sure if this means folks with OpenID accounts or not. I thought about using a different platform to host the poll, but ultimately it'll be Dreamwidth users who make up the community, so those are the opinions I most want; Dreamwidth account creation is free, and if you don't already have one, making one would communicate to me in a big way just how much you want this community to be a thing. I'm currently planning to keep the poll open for at least a week, possibly as many as ten days, so there's plenty of time to decide if you want to make an account or to change your mind about anything - and also plenty of time for me to change my mind and offer the poll on a different platform, as well. You are well within your rights to request I do so! I'll make a public post announcing a few days before I close the poll.

Comments are open to everyone, so if you want to make a case for a given name, or suggest more than the form will let you, or go into detail on any of your decisions, or just about anything else, you are welcome to do so! Anonymous comments are also on, with a text-based Captcha whose answers should be easy to find in a search if you need to. Yes, this means you can submit a vote in the comments if you don't have or want to create a Dreamwidth account.

Is that everything? I think that's everything. Anyway, vote!

The most basic premise for Inclusionists Inc is that I want to make a place to celebrate and support everyone that Tumblr exclusionists think don't count as queer/LGBTQIAP+. I also want to make it on a place that's not Tumblr; Dreamwidth is the platform I'm most familiar with aside from that, and this lovely place has some excellent tools for dealing with any hypothetical trolls. Plus, I imagine it'll be easier to weed out any exclusionists in advance, and more difficult for trolls to take over or derail in the first place due to the actual structure of the website. On top of all of that, it also has some excellent built in accessibility features, and accessibility is also something I want to make a focus of in the comm.

Here's some things I think it would be cool to post at Inclusionists Inc:

* Art (drawings, paintings, edits, crafts, etc; I for one plan to offer coloring pages!)
* Writing (prose, poetry, nonfiction, the works)
* Other various creative things (videos, fanmixes, recipes???, etc)
* Media recommendations featuring characters like us (books, movies, podcasts, fanfics, etc)
* Media reviews of canons that feature or supposedly feature characters like us, with warnings as appropriate
* Character headcanons
* All sorts of creative fandom stuff, in fact
* Introductions ("Hi, I'm [name], and I'm [sexuality/gender], and here are some things about me!")
* Friending/following memes for various identities
* Resources for various queer identities
* Resources for various intersectional identities (queer and: disabled, POC, poor, fat, homeless, religious, etc)
* Theme weeks/months for various identities (I know there's an Ace Awareness Week, and there's probably more I'd love to observe community-wide)
* Creative challenges and/or prompt sets
* Memes
* Icons
* Product recommendations, promotions, and/or shoutouts ("So-and-so's store offers a whole lot of aromantic pride stuff!")
* General fun, supportive, and pride related stuff

Here's some stuff I think would be really cool to do, but may not have the spoons to make happen myself:

* Exchanges (electronic-only or physical goods included)
* Fundraisers for various related causes and charities
* Giveaways (this I might be able to manage, but I don't want to bite off more than I can chew)
* Probably more, but I got distracted trying to remember everything I came up with at work that I thought I could pull off

I'd love to know what everyone thinks of these ideas; if you like them, if you like some especially more than others, if you have any suggestions, or if you might be willing to help with anything! This is actually a little ambitious for me, but I really do want there to be a place where we can build a true community together, and I'm willing to build the groundwork at the very least; I just want some help to keep it going :)

I'm also open to workshopping the name, as I know some folks may not care for the incidental association with corporations.

If I were to create a positivity community here on Dreamwidth for Ace, Aro, Intersex, Nonbinary, and/or Genderqueer folks (with occasional visits to binary trans folks, multisexual/Bi+ folks, and anyone else who could conceivably date a straight person, as needed/appropriate), would anyone be interested in, like, posting things to it? At all? 'Cuz I've got a potential name already picked out, I just don't want to be shouting into the void. And I think it would be nice to have an uplifting, positivity/solidarity community for folks here, where it's also easier to deal with any potential jerks.

IDK, any thoughts

Edit: The name would potentially be Inclusionists, Inc. Because I think it's cute, and it could also be shortened to Inc^2.

Edit 2: I've got some ideas going for what I think would be nice to have in this community over here, for anyone who wants to take a gander; as for me, I'm home from work, but wrestling with my computer now 9_9 I'll reply to more comments as soon as I can!
