HorrorSage’s review published on Letterboxd:
Good evening and welcome fellow Children of Chaos.
Hey hey want more wrestling reviews? No? Too bad, I'm watching uWf Street Boss.
So we open with more vignettes and at least this one ends with a fight, real quick, and 2 minutes in we are in the intro to the event.
Also we get a good look at the uWf title and damn. Like damn. So it's got the uWf logo in red on top of a gold background styled like bricks in a wall. And damn it looks good. Gold, a stylized, representative of the promotion. I give their title an 8/10. Could use a bit more flourish around the border, but all in all. I approve.
I also like this intro gives us an overview of the stables, the leaders and kind of shows us where they are from. Because like, being based on Street Gangs, I know like your home turf is a big deal, so we get a map of america and each of the territories. Solid
Sadly still a lot more vignettes and a lot of background on what's going on, too many promos honestly. But we get a street fight (literally) with Murder One and Low Life Louie. I'm starting to recognize some of these goofs. Sadly it kinda goes on to long as it's just punches and sticking each other with garbage. Not a good sign uWf
And more promos. And the sound mixing is awful, all these guys mumble while a beat plays over them, it's the irritating bump bump ding song. And I can't tell what is going on. There is an exchange of money or something? I don't know. A bunch of guys hanging out. Though SCORPIO SKY, I know that guys as well. That makes a whole 3 big names on these shows.
23 minutes in and we finally have some people going to the ring. Famous B is coming to the ring with Willie MAck. 4, 4 legit names here! Damn. I love how Willie Mac is part of 40 Glocc and still looking like a goof. I love Willie MAck. Also nice camera work while the one guy is talking, right on the female valet's ass. I approve.
And Billie Blue is going to wrestle Willie Mack, no idea who this guy is but against Willie it has the potential to be great. Wait this is a triple threat with bandido. I think Scorpio Sky is here as well. This is why their way of introducing wrestlers doesn't work. There are guys in here that I didn't see their name cards. I think I am just supposed to like no. There are 5 guys and I only saw 3 of them introduced. Willie Mack, Billie Blue, and Bandido. I see Sky now, but like they didn't really announce him. And they say someone named Jeez in here.
Also Scorpio sky and Willie MAck and in wrestling gear instead of street clothes and it's like "Hey were going for a street gang vibe" and they were like "cool, but wrestling tights are safer to wrestle in".
And the announcers still showing their skills "He's like a kid on Christmas or a Crackhead on the first of the month"
When doing a plancha "He got so high on that I got a contact"
Someone these guys!
This match is just more proof of what I don't like about the super-indy style. It's just big moves. And after the 25th near fall when Billy Blue hits this modified missile drop kick I can't care because like I didn't know that was supposed to be his finisher. Not gonna lie, I don't know the name, but Billy Blue's theme is pretty solid.
Also I'm not a rap aficionado, but I can say each of the stables themes are different enough I can tell them apart, not really familiar enough with the wrestlers to get hype over a theme, but hey, I can tell them apart, more than I can say for WWE's themes there for a while.
Briscoe (Miami) did a promo where he was like "This is my dude, he's gonna win the uWf title" then his man just stared down the camera. Fuck yeah, I know who you are, what you are about, and what you are going to do. 2-3 minutes. THAT is a promo.
And Homicide, see this is what happened when you don't give you guys guidelines for promos, they just ramble, Homicide can cut a promo, and that is what sucks here.
Oh funny story, I was at an ROH show and me and a friend yelled at Homicide "You ain't New JAck" and he looked at us and was like "I ain't trying to be bitch". And you got a fan with that!
And now a dude is in the ring calling someone out for talking to one of his "hos" behind his back and Ortiz comes out and you know, I've seen worse excuses for a match. It's also a qualifier for the uWf title tournament. Honestly, not that bad. This match is fairly solid. They keep saying BEast Ortiz was a Smackdown wrestler but I don't recognize him.
Ortiz trying to superplex Brown into the crowd and he is telling the fans to move and they sit there like idiots. I was at an NEW Ohio show and Trinity tried to get fans to move so she could body slam Traci Brooks onto chairs and they wouldn't move and they came on after the match and were like "Hey, you need to move if the wrestlers want you to for their safety and yours."
But anyway a pretty solid match ending on a decent spear. Not a bad match.
Then we get some more poorly mixed vignettes and it ends on a recap under that one Billy Blue song that I really liked.
Wait nope, more shit I can't hear because the sound mixing is bad.
Another example of not my shit. Trying a bit too hard to be cinematic (in 2011 so a bit forward). Kind of reminds me of Wrestling Society X where they pushed the idea of wrestling as cinema over a sporting simulacrum.
I wonder if there is more on Tubi, though I don't think I'd watch. But if anything I said here sounds cool to you I'd give it a shot. It looks like the fed only lasted 2 years and that is kinda sad.
Oh well, some GLOW action is next in my Queue
