The Puppets Take Meanhattan is the first segment of 10th episode in season 3 of Harvey Street Kids. The title of the episode is a reference to the Muppets movie The Muppets Take Manhattan.

Synopsis[]

Lucretia discovers that her idolized puppeteer is not very kind.

Plot[]

The episode begins with the Harvey Girls and Richie Rich doing a gymnast pose with Lotta's rabbits, where Lucretia arrives at the scene with her doll. The shout of the last one to call them causes the girls to lose concentration and fall. Lucretia for her part, says that she has great news and decides with her doll who will tell her the news and Lucretia herself ends up doing it. This is that Dollcretia will participate in an audition to belong to the "Puppet Troupe" of a puppeteer named Patty Pupé, who will visit Tomorrow Harvey Street as part of her "Nice O'Clock" tour.

S03E10A Lucretia meeting Patty

Lucretia meeting Patty for the first time

Richie for his part, wants to know more about that puppeteer, so he uses his cell phone. Lotta says she doesn't like puppets for their jerky movements and hollow eyes full of nightmares. Lotta nervously asks if Dollcretia is a puppet, to which Lucretia adding a stick can make her one and Lotta reacts hiding among her rabbits. Lucretia proceeds to tell the group that she and her doll are fans of Patty by showing a temporary tattoo of Patty on her right forearm next to another of the Harvey girls. Richie asks about her other tattoo that he mistakes for a mole, to which Lucretia responds saying "Check your privilege Richie", causing him to retire.

Lucretia for her part, says that she imagines Dollcretia living her dream as someone famous while she can live her dream of living on a bus. Audrey proposes to join the Puppet Troupe with Dot trying to look like puppets. Richie says that there are rumors in Becuzzfeed (A Buzzfeed parody) that Patty Pupé is not a nice person. To which Lucretia defensively says that they are only rumors of jealous people. He tells her to be careful as people ignore the bad qualities of their heroes, with Lucretia telling him that she is not listening. Lotta, unaware that his entire group has withdrawn, believes that the puppets have caught them.

The next morning, considering that's Patty's arrival time. Lucretia waits outside Frufru's house. Dollcretia asks if she has everything, to which Lucretia tells her that she has ergonomic markers for her autographs, a Jacuzzi for her hands, and a band called "The Marchmallows" made up of Pinkeye with a tuba and Penny in the saucers. Patty's van approaches the street, which accelerated and climbed on the sidewalk, almost running over the three kids, where they move in time but the van manages to ram the Pinkeye's tuba. Patty presents herself, where she happens to bypass Lucretia with her van's doors where she says that she cannot control her automatic bus and asks who she is. Lucretia is impressed and the doll slaps her to react, she introduces herself and her doll, where she offers the Jacuzzi for hands.

Patty tells her that she is cute, and that her puppets Mr. Cornbread and Baby Beans think the same too. Lucretia, saying that they still have time for the audition, invites her to a restaurant called "Chateau Bow". Where Patty says that she will cover the costs and will take advantage of telling her a couple of tips for the audition. Patty asks if that could be considered a cute gesture, to which Lucretia says that it is so cute that it could be considered "not cute", while she mocks Richie suspicions while talking to her mole located in her right forearm.

S03E10A Patty about to pop a balloon

Patty about to pop Billy's balloon

In the restaurant, which is located in the middle of the park and its table is a picnic sheet with pillows for their customers. Lucretia asks where her puppet friends are, to which Patty says she left them in her van, with Lucretia reacting as if she had been told the ugliest vulgarity in history. Patty tells her not to worry since they are happy there. Billy serving as a waiter arrives and Patty asks for a cheesecake while saying it was time. When Lucretia went to order, Patty interrupts her saying that everyone will order the same plate.

Dollcretia looks at Lucretia as a way to press her to ask her about the tips for the audition. When she was about to do it, Patty immediately spits out the cake, Billy tries to clean it and Patty takes the opportunity to pop his balloon with a fork. Lucretia is stunned and Patty tells her the tip using a southern saying, which is a mutual favor, with Lucretia taking the saying too literally. Patty then tells her that there are dome people who say she is not nice and implies that she wants loud fans to disprove those rumors, all while she is stepping Dollcretia with her heels. Lucretia suspects there are problems considering the Billy incident, but ignores them, with Patty leaving saying that she has to go fix her hair.

Lucretia asks Dollcretia if there are any red flags that she is ignoring, to which the latter tells her for convenience that she doesn't see any. Lucretia says that generally the voice of reason' role is done by her doll, so she believes her. Meanwhile, Audrey and Dot want to be on the show, so they want to scare Lotta under her permission to check if they pass as puppets, but Lotta still sees them as her friends, where they will continue to practice looking more like puppets.

In the park's gazebo, Dollcretia does her audition where she only passes by saying a phrase from Shakespeare (Creesh or not to Creesh, here is the Creeshtion). Lucretia despite having hours of rehearsal material, Patty tells her that it is enough and that they will do their first show on Harvey Street as a way to deny the rumors to anyone they meet. While she tells her that she will see her in the show, she pushes Bobby out of her way who practiced some taichi and Dollcretia (Lucretia using her voice), tells him that it was only an accident and that Patty is nice.

S03E10A Dollcretia pressuring

Dollcretia then tells her not to blow it, which Lucretia asks her to don't forget about her when she is famous. Before proceeding, Lucretia hears Lotta scream, where she sets out to come to her aid. The scene is changed to Audrey and Dot in a more realistic puppet costume, which would explain the previous screams. Lucretia arrives where she notices the situation, with Audrey congratulating her that Dollcretia won the audition since she saw it on her RightNow-O-Gram profile, something that worries Lucretia since she had her Dollcretia's phone all day and does not know how she managed to post said publication.

Audrey wants Lucretia to introduce her to Patty, but she feels unsure about telling the truth considering that it can blow her doll's opportunity to get famous, who puts her hands on her hips as a way to press on her. Lucretia says a shy "yes", which Richie reproaching her. Lucretia, very nervous about the matter, continues with the lie and leaves the scene to get out of trouble, using an excuse to find Patty.

On stage, Lucretia hears Patty mistreating her puppets, either insulting both of them, beating Mr. Cornbread with a spoon or eating beans in front of Babay Beans, literally telling him to "stop being a crybaby". Lucretia goes to her, where she catches Patty red-handed and sees the puppets with a sad expression. Lucretia reproaches her for this, but Patty excuses herself that it was an accident and saying to forget it. Lucretia, clearly confused about it, is pressured by Patty telling her to stay quiet, especially since it can cost her doll's stardom. In the show, Patty pushes Lucretia to enter the stage and the last one takes her place, which is a box of puppets moving to Dollcretia as if she were dancing while Patty sings the song "The time is always Nice O'clock".

Lucretia holding her doll, remembering what Patty did before.

The song says that Puppetopia is a place where you can rest after having a bad time or after getting too exhausted. At the same time, Lucretia looks out of the puppet box, where she looks worriedly at the Harvey girls (Audrey and Dot) as they joins the stage. Therefore, she moves her doll slowly while doing so and Patty sees her, putting an ugly face to keep pretending that everything is fine. Lucretia freaks out and hides in the puppet box thinking about all the incidents: When Patty almost ran over her and the kids, when she pushed Bobby, when she hit Mr. Cornbread with a spoon, when she ate a can of food in front of Baby Beans. Lucretia then takes Dollcretia, probably symbolizing that she does not want her to being contaminated with Patty's influence, and interrupts the song saying that Patty is not nice. Dot and Audrey who were in an awkward dance pose at the time of the interruption, fall and are impressed.

Patty defends herself by asking the public who are going to believe, a media personality or her. Lucretia's image of Patty falls apart and her bang falls, probably symbolizing that she wanted to cry. Pinkeye, Bobby and Billy reproach her by citing their incidents while Patty is cornered. Lucretia gets up when she sees the support for her from the public, Patty therefore does not resist the pressure and admits not being cute saying that she would look for more fans in the other block.

S03E10A The public supporting Lucretia

The public believing Lucretia over Patty

While saying that Lucretia cannot stop her saying that she is a famous puppeteer, she takes both puppets from behind her saying that her puppeteer days are over, but Patty tells her what Dollcretia will think about this, to which she gives Patty the silent treatment and gives a Hi five to Lucretia as a sign of support for her. As Patty leaves, she notices that something is making her float, which are balloons Billy put behind her saying no that she shouldn't be rude towards the waiters.

With the majority of the public stage retired, Dollcretia apologizes to Lucretia, to which she says that it does not matter since she is usually the one who is wrong. Lucretia goes to the Harvey girls, who play with Patty's puppets. When Lotta looked like she was going to overcome her puppet fear while cooing Mr. Cornbread, he drops an eye and Lotta goes out in terror throwing him off camera. At the end of the episode an end card of Dollcretia and Patty's puppets are shown with the last ones having star eyes, probably symbolizing that she and Lucretia obtained moral stardom when facing Patty. In the credits for this episode and its sister episode, Lucretia and Patty can be heard singing the duet song of "The time is always Nice O'clock".
