Richard W. Goldberg is an Article III federal judge for the United States Court of International Trade. He joined the court in 1991 after being nominated by President George H.W. Bush. Goldberg is serving on senior status.

Education

Goldberg received a bachelor's degree from the University of Miami in 1950, and a J.D. degree from the University of Miami Law School in 1952.

Goldberg served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1965 in the JAG Corps and in the United States Air Force Reserves as a Captain from 1956 to 1957.

Judicial career

Court of International Trade

Goldberg was nominated to serve on the United States Court of International Trade by President George H.W. Bush on January 8, 1991, to a seat vacated by Judge Paul Rao. The Senate confirmed Goldberg's nomination by unanimous consent on March 21, 1991, and Goldberg received commission on March 25, 1991. Goldberg assumed senior status on April 2, 2001.

Noteworthy cases

Stanford shredding case (2010)

Judge Goldberg, on visiting duty to the Southern District of Florida, dismissed a request to drop obstruction charges against two former associates of Allen Stanford.

Thomas Raffanello and Bruce Perraud were accused of illegally shredding documents in relation to a Ponzi scheme of $7 billion ran by financier Allen Stanford. The judge would reconsider the motion again before the jury has the chance to deliberate fully on the case.
