Cadell is the scythe of the Central Dominion of Alacrya, working directly under Agrona Vritra as his right-hand man. Cadell was one of the most important people in the war against Dicathen, having infiltrated the Castle and ordered the deaths of Alduin, Merial, Blaine and Priscilla. He is widely regarded as the strongest scythe.
With the help of Alduin, Cadell infiltrates the Castle, severely injuring Virion and Bairon and killing Buhnd in the process.[1] Afterwards, once Dicathen is captured after the Bloodfrost Battle, he orders his retainer, Lyra, to execute the kings and queens of Sapin and Elenoir, and to display ther corpses at Etistin as a sign of the goodwill of the Vritra.[2]
He later joins Nico, saving him from Arthur during their attempted escape at Telmore. There, he fights Sylvie while Arthur desperately tries to save his comrades. The battle ends with the presumed "deaths" of both Arthur and Sylvie.[3]
Cadell is also present at the Victoriad, an annual competition held for alacryan mages. This time, it is held in the city of Victorious in Vechor. Arthur is there as a professor of the Central Academy, going by the name Grey. Grey first challanges scythe Nico, and the two fight, with Nico swiftly losing to Grey's domineering strength. Next, Grey challenges Cadell, who initially refuses but is made to accept by Sovereign Kiros.[4] The ensuing battle causes great destruction, but ultimately ends in Grey's victory, as he burns Cadell to nothingness using destruction, leaving only his horns.[5]Appearance[]
Cadell is a man with little resemblance to a human. His skin is gray as ash, with long hair, slightly lighter in color than his skin. He has two large. dark horns sprouting from the sides of his head, taking on an S-shape. His face is stern but expressionless at most times, and his eyes are red, both the pupils and the whites. Cadell dons a set of black battle-armor, covering him from his neck and down.[6]
Personality[]
Cadell is a man with no regard for any lesser life. He has a strong sense of loyalty towards Agrona, always acting in his best interest. He is proud of his Vritra blood and will not do anything he considers to be below him. He rarely shows emotions but is more prone to frustration than any other emotion. The only time fear was seen on his face was just before Arthur killed him.[5] He is seen to enjoy taunting both Arthur and Nico.
Background[]
Cadell was made a scythe some fifteen years prior to the start of the War with Dicathen, just as Agrona truly began to prepare for the war. Prior to that, he had been working in the shadows as Agrona's right-hand man, going on missions on the High Sovereign's behalf. After Sylvia escaped from Agrona, Cadell was sent to Dicathen to find her. He eventually found her as she had to reveal her presence to help Arthur. Arthur managed to escape, but Cadell suceeded in killing an already weakened Sylvia[6] and bringing her corpse and beast core back to Taegrin Caelum,[7] earning him the moniker "Dragon Slayer".
Relationships[]
Lyra Dreide: Lyra is the retainer of Cadell. Their relationship was strictly military, like one between an overseer and subordinate.[8]
Abilities & Skills[]
Cadell has been shown using the decay mana arts soulfire, blood iron and void wind.[5]
Soulfire: Soul Fire is a black flame that does not radiate heat but consumes everything it comes into contact with, therefore it does not burn but rather destroys matter, energy, and even Mana itself. Soul Fire has been shown to deplete life energy, making it impossible for even a lance to use mana for an extended period of time. It can also be used to treat non-fatal injuries to the user and others. This has something to do with Vritra's decay mana arts. Cadell can also transform into an intangible being and create weapons with soul fire.
Blood Iron: He can generate black blood iron spikes out of thin air with no effort, but he requires shadow to utilize them, similar to Uto and Elijah, but unlike them, he can create weapons out of them, such as swords and spears.
Void wind: Cadell can create void black missiles that he can shoot at opponents which seem to be decay mana art version of wind, which causes erosion. Cadell has also created a hurricane of blustering decay-inused wind which was similar to an impenetrable cloud.
Void black Sword: Cadell has the ability to carve a void black sword into the shape of a longsword that resembles a piece of the night sky and is extremely resilient. When a victim is stabbed with this weapon, it begins to grow and tear into the victim's body. When assaulted, the weapon can also reassemble itself, as it did when it covered Arthur's Aether blade.
Decay mana Arts: He can also fuse different decay mana arts together to make them stronger
Flight: He can fly.
