Eternal Rest for the Master of This Lake! (2) (この湖の主に永遠の眠りを！②, Kono Mizuumi no Nushi ni Ēen no Nemuri wo! 2) is the seventieth chapter of the KonoSuba manga series, and covers Chapter 2 in Volume 7 of the light novels.
Summary[]
Walking towards the lake for another day of challenging the Kowloon Hydra, Darkness is surprised to see Kazuma at the head of other adventurers in Axel. Initially mad at him for being the cause of them addressing her by her real name, she becomes grateful upon hearing how Kazuma had petitioned the adventurers at the Guild to assist with her endeavour.
The mood is broken when Aqua, who frantically swims in the lake towards safe ground, screams about the Hydra waking up much quicker this time, while Megumin yells at her from the shore for prematurely awakening it due to her impatience to return and watch Emperor Zel's egg. Kazuma accordingly signals for the adventurers to get into position as their plan commences, starting with Darkness attracting the Hydra's attention with Decoy.
When the Hydra is trying to bite at Darkness only to have her stop it by grabbing at a fang of the head going for her, Kazuma uses Ambush for secretly approaching it. The Thieves among the adventurers quickly seize the opportunity to Bind the Hydra's heads together with special steel wire, following which the Archers shoot hooked arrows tied to trailing wires so that they latch onto the binding wires, and consequently create many wires for the tough adventurers to drag the Hydra further ashore from a safe distance.
Meanwhile, Kazuma who reaches the Hydra climbs atop it, before enacting a full-power Drain Touch to deprive it of the magical power strengthening the monster. Despite his skill having an actual effect, the bucking Hydra manages to throw Kazuma off onto the ground, and then rolls its body over in an attempt to squash him. The nearby Darkness immediately rushes over, and in the nick of time positions herself over Kazuma so that she can keep the crushing weight of the Hydra off him. Surprised at Darkness' strength and endurance, Kazuma resumes Draining the Hydra's magical power, which Darkness who presently rejoices being in such an awkward position had worn down over the span of many days.
While the other adventurers struggle to hold the Hydra in place, Dust who wants to claim the kill attacks it against the advice of Rin, and ends up getting eaten. With the distracted Hydra shifting its bulk, Kazuma is able to drag Darkness out from under it, following which Yunyun casts Light of Saber to make the Hydra spit out Dust's body.
Unable to regenerate the head cut off by Yunyun because of insufficient magical power, the Hydra attempts to flee back into the lake as the adventurers pulling on it do their best to keep it ashore. Kazuma immediately calls on the wizards to attack with a barrage of spells, before Megumin finishes the Hydra off with an Explosion.
Later as Megumin argues with the Yunyun carrying her back over who did more work during the battle, Dust and Rin praise the relieved Kazuma for his leadership that saw the Kowloon Hydra slain, something even the knights are incapable of. After the jubilant Kazuma proclaims treating everybody to celebratory partying, Darkness who now has her hesitations cleared tells him of how she made up her mind to fearlessly face whatever comes next for the sake of the town she had grown to love, subsequent to which Aqua complains about her lack of action.
