Welcome Home! (お帰り!, Okaeri!) is the seventy-ninth chapter of the KonoSuba manga series, and covers Epilogues 1 to 2 in Volume 7 of the light novels.
Summary[]
Upon appearing at their mansion's entrance the following morning, Darkness surprises the others with the news of how Alderp had disappeared overnight despite the best efforts of his servants to find him, as well as evidence of all his numerous misdeeds suddenly coming to light, including indications of him gifting the divine item that switched Kazuma and Iris' bodies. While harbouring skepticism at the speculations about the governor simply fleeing to avoid prosecution when he was so obsessed with Darkness, Kazuma in addition to Megumin and Aqua are told that the bags they had packed for fleeing to work as farmers somewhere far away until things cool down are no longer needed.
Darkness next shows apprehension towards Kazuma inviting her back into their mansion, so Aqua explains to the puzzled Megumin of how Kazuma had paid a fortune to purchase Darkness, at which Kazuma hurriedly stops her from continuing the misunderstanding-inducing explanation before Megumin gets further agitated. This is followed by a sincere apology from Darkness over all the trouble her foolish acts had caused them, though Megumin and Aqua readily forgive her. Kazuma is next apologised at because he had to sell off all his irrecoverable intellectual property, but just as he plans make a living by selling Japanese food, Darkness reveals that the state can reimburse his fortune plus the reparations he had paid for damaged buildings back using Alderp's confiscated wealth, because despite everybody somehow thinking otherwise back then, it was actually the governor instead of Kazuma and the Dustinesses' responsibility to pay for collateral damages resulting from battles to protect the town. Overjoyed at his 2 billion eris coming back, Kazuma proceeds to dream of enjoying the services of the Succubus Cafe for the rest of his life, before calling Aqua and Megumin bitches when they abruptly kiss up to him in hopes of having him buy something that they want.
Kazuma who is buoyed by the amount of the money next tells the Darkness still standing at the door how he was actually glad to hear about her secretly cleaning up for them, and with him repaying her yesterday, they are now even and can forget about everything that happened. Darkness though brings up Kazuma's claim of buying her, and upon him proclaiming under the gazes of Aqua and Megumin to forget that statement too, expresses a hint of depression. She accordingly recounts the letter about her leaving the party, at which Megumin and Aqua beat Kazuma in declaring their dismissal of it, before Kazuma too welcomes Darkness back.
Inside their mansion, however, the suddenly perceptive Aqua points out that Kazuma had actually wanted Darkness to sexually repay him with her body, followed by Megumin recalling the many girls he had tried claiming. Darkness accordingly talks of them nearly crossing the line when Kazuma broke into her family home, and during the ensuing flurry of insults against his character from Aqua and Megumin, she triumphantly smiles over getting her payback.
Suddenly curious, Kazuma asks Aqua regarding this world's marriage registration system, which in fact involves the couple registering their marriage with the city hall in the morning before holding the ceremony in the afternoon. Abruptly realising that Darkness now has the weird characteristics of being a divorced virgin on top of a masochistic noble, the others discuss about the divorcee now known by the world for having her officially wedded husband dumping her on the night of their wedding, before the shocked Darkness is brought to humiliated tears when Kazuma calls her "Divorceness".
Later at a small coffee shop in Axel, Kazuma tells Chris of Darkness shutting herself up in her family home and forcing him to think of another way to break in. After Chris tells Kazuma not to tease Darkness, she is asked about what she did during the unexpectedly long time it took her to return ever since they parted ways at the Royal Capital. Chris thus tries to deflect with vague replies of being called away to some other job that involved taking care of dead people, followed by expressing her astonishment at the divine item used for summoning random monsters actually in the possession of the governor. Subsequent to thanking Kazuma for saving Darkness, Chris asks him to help retrieve other divine items out there, and upon him refusing even when offered money, she troubledly scratches her scarred cheek, before standing to leave while still insisting on seeking Kazuma's aid.
At this moment, Kazuma recalls seeing her habit of smiling and scratching her cheek somewhere else, in addition to discerning how she solely refers to Aqua in a humble fashion. Further finding more similarities between the Thief and that other person who solely refers to Darkness in a friendly fashion, he asks Eris for the whereabouts of the divine item retrieved from Alderp. Chris proceeds to unthinkingly answer with a summary of how she sealed and hid it at the bottom of the Kowloon Hydra's lake, without realising the confession of her true identity until it is too late.
