Afterwards, Megumin and Kazuma are shown by the Guild's receptionist lady an herbivorous Beginner's Bane with red eyes that had been captured and caged. While Megumin likes this Beginner's Bane, which likes to eat paulownia fruit, Kazuma and the passerby Dust are reminded of bad memories with them.
Some days later, Megumin takes a Chomusuke she put into a dress for a marriage interview with the Beginner's Bane, to Kazuma's exasperation. When brought to the cage however, Chomusuke and the Beginner's Bane that looks sickly weak display no interest to each other.
The noblemanAkudo who purchased the Beginner's Bane for serving as a rare pet then approaches, and arrogantly argues with Megumin over whether it is dead. As the cage is prepared to be dragged back to Akudo's city, the nobleman decides to let the weak Beginner's Bane out of the cage and only restrain it with ropes.
The cunning feline though pounces on Akudo as soon as the cage is opened, at which the scared nobleman calls for Megumin to kill it. Megumin proceeds to cast Explosion, resulting in Akudo and his servants being blown unconscious while Kazuma and Chomusuke take cover. Yet the Beginner's Bane slips away unharmed because Megumin had aimed to miss, so the impressed Kazuma treats her to dinner, and after several days the town's guards report a lot of paulownia fruit left at the gates.
