Summary[]

Covering her lower face with a scarf, Chris leads to the outside of the Royal Castle's walls a Kazuma who is all dressed in black and covering his face with the mask received from the wierdo clerk working at a magical item shop in Axel, in preparation for grabbing the necklace from Iris. After Kazuma describes Vanir as the "Crow Slayer" and contemplates how nothing good will come from a follower of the Eris Church like Chris meeting with the Devil, he has a disagreement with Chris over who gets to be the leader. At Chris' suggestion to settle it with a contest, he proceeds to battle it out with rock-paper-scissors at which he had never lost, only to find himself losing at it for the first time and ending up as the assistant.

Through Kazuma looping a rope over the walls with Deadeye, the pair make their way across the courtyard, following which Chris picks the lock for them to head inside the castle. Taking the lead because of his familiarity with the castle's layout, Kazuma soon flattens an embarrassed Chris onto the walls as he uses Ambush to hide themselves from a patrolling soldier, though he later has to control himself when reminded of Eris watching his sexual harassment. Originally intending to head for Iris' bedroom situated on the top floor, Kazuma at Chris' request instead takes her towards the treasury, where the other divine item used for summoning monsters may possibly be located.

Arriving at the treasury on the second floor, Chris deactivates the magic barrier protecting it with the Barrier Breaker that she had borrowed from a noble who bought it from the Crimson Magic Clan. Once inside where Chris warns of traps, they cannot find any trace of the divine item, but do see some Dragon Age magazines Kazuma also once owned. He then however falls to the temptation of an adult magazine, and against Chris' advice reaches out for it.

Soon fleeing through the castle corridors from pursuers with the adult magazine in his possession and a Chris incensed at him setting off the alarm behind him, Kazuma Creates Water on the floor before Freezing it so the soldiers running after them slip and fall over, then Chris blocks off the corridor behind them with Wire Trap to force their pursuers into slowly cutting through the wires.

Despite Chris calling for a retreat, Kazuma who will be kicked out of the Royal Capital tomorrow uncharacteristically insists on completing the job, and while recollecting he and Iris' conversation on the balcony during the farewell banquet, he realises how he is doing this out of concern for Iris as her "big brother". Deciding to get serious, Kazuma stops fleeing and waits for the soldiers who had finished cutting through the wires to catch up, the first of whom he allows to grab onto his hand so he can Drain Touch him. Further taking on a pompous attitude, he Creates Earth which he then blows into the other soldiers' eyes with Wind Breath.

As the sentries call for reinforcements and adventurers' assistance against the skillful thieves heading for the top floor, Kazuma takes Chris towards the final staircase leading up. Faced with more soldiers in their way, Kazuma while he defeats them identifies his duo as the "Silver-Haired Thief Gang" in an attempt to play down his role in the incident, much to the chagrin of Chris, from whom Kazuma keeps the Lich origins of Drain Touch a secret. Next seeing a pair of mages preparing spells, Chris stops their spellcasting with Skill Bind before Kazuma Binds them. While the sentries are baffled by Kazuma being able to repeatedly use Skills, Chris at the top floor Wire Traps the staircase behind them to prevent reinforcements. Yet as Kazuma makes to head for Iris, they are faced by none other than Claire, Lain, and Mitsurugi.
