God's Blessings on This Beautiful Bride! (1) (この花嫁に祝福を!①, Kono Hanayome ni Shukufuku wo! 1) is the seventy-sixth chapter of the KonoSuba manga series, and covers Chapter 5 in Volume 7 of the light novels.

Summary[]

In the bridal preparation chamber, Darkness wearing a bridal dress is praised for her beautiful appearance by some new maids who have no idea how much sorrow this marriage brings to her family. She then hears Norris and a colleague at the door stop the impatient Alderp from barging in to see her, even as the governor threatens them with reprisal once he becomes their master after the marriage. Darkness thus expresses her gratitude to the two guards, who plan to quit anyways rather than serve Alderp, and advises her not to play too intensely by herself before taking their leave. Reminded of how that disreputable rumour was sparked because her voice got mimicked, the embarrassed Darkness then contemplates about always quarrelling with Kazuma, who she doesn't expect to appear.

Back at the party's mansion, Megumin is prevented by Kazuma from going to ruin the wedding through throwing Explosions. Upon being criticised for simply letting Darkness marry the governor so he can have his way with her, Kazuma angrily expresses his resentment, before divulging what he had found out about Alderp during the past few days. It turns out that Alderp is known to have forced himself onto many pretty girls through whatever means possible, only to abandon them soon after losing interest. Yet for some reason, the victims all refused to testify against Alderp, so despite him also committing other evil acts such as exploitation and bribery, the nation couldn't find the proof needed to prosecute him, thus Ignis was sent to Axel for keeping an eye on the governor as well as find evidence.

Hearing Kazuma confess his helplessness as a commoner who won't be able to assist, since the money from him may possibly get rejected even if he knows how much the debt is, Megumin heads out to solve the problem through a way that doesn't make her regret it. Left behind to wallow in powerlessness, Kazuma is then surprised when Vanir comes in to the rescue. Ignoring Kazuma's demands to send Wiz in his stead, Vanir offers to buy all of Kazuma's intellectual property in exchange for the money in the suitcase he brought along, a deal he had already foreseen will be accepted by Kazuma, who is caught between wanting to save Darkness and fearing her rejection. During the ensuing inspection of the product prototypes made by Kazuma, the All-Seeing Devil who knows what Kazuma wants to ask him assures the Adventurer that both their goals align. But before he can answer the questions on how come the Dustiness household found themselves in debt and why were there no proof of Alderp's multiple crimes, Vanir gets hit by Aqua's Sacred Exorcism and crumbles, forcing him to regenerate a new body while Kazuma reprimands the toilet goddess.

Once things settled down, Vanir explains that it all sparked from the adventurers destroying the Mobile Fortress Destroyer, which up till then had been annihilating towns to leave the governors as homeless as the common folk. Although the town of Axel itself didn't suffer damage, the farmlands and irrigation channels in the surrounding area were ravaged by the Destroyer prior to its destruction. Left without their wealth and livelihoods, the farmers sought help from Alderp only to be refused, so they instead went begging the Dustinesses for aid, because their household had previously shouldered the majority of the bill for the flood damages caused by one party of adventurers, even though they had to sell all of their assets except for their mansion.

As Kazuma and Aqua listen on in shock, Vanir continues about Darkness bowing down to Alderp in order to borrow money from him for aiding those afflicted by the Destroyer, even though the condition was using her body as collateral if the head of her household cannot meet his financial obligations. Unable to hold back his anger anymore, Kazuma asks Vanir for the amount of the debt, which turns out to equal the money in Vanir's suitcase in addition to his own personal holdings, now that he has made up his mind to accept the Demon's deal.
