"What I Want Is the Strongest Wizard" (「欲しいのは最強の魔法使い」, "Hoshii no wa Saikyō no Mahōtsukai") is the fifty-third chapter of the KonoSuba manga series, and covers Chapters 5 to 6 in Volume 5 of the light novels.

Summary[]

The devastating blast fired from the Railgun punches through Sylvia, and as everybody looks on in surprise at her sudden demise, Komekko introduces herself in Crimson Magic Clan style as one who is stronger that the Demon King's Generals.

After the remnants of the Demon King's Army in the area are mopped up, the devastated Crimson Magic Village is rebuilt in a matter of few days to Kazuma's surprise, thanks to all the Stone Golems and Devils that the villagers summoned for construction work. He and Megumin later run into Arue, the girl who muttered about the village burning and filled him with guilt, and are shown the sequel to the fiction that started the misunderstandings in the first place, which Kazuma furiously tears up to the writer's anger.

That night back at Megumin's home, Kazuma grumbles to the Megumin sleeping beside him about the village's mixed bathing hot springs being nothing but a sham, then shares with her a story of how he got through one Valentine's Day without actually getting chocolate, at which Megumin confesses that she likes him, before asking if he wants a truly useful Wizard.

The following day, Kazuma and Megumin see Yunyun referred to by the nickname she used in her introduction, which she feels embarrassed at. They are soon joined by Funifura and Dodonko who says how Yunyun is the greatest in the village, so the piqued Megumin boasts to them that Kazuma is her boyfriend, driving all the other girls away in tears.

Megumin, who feels guilty about being a burden with only one Skill, later takes Kazuma to a plain outside the village, where she asks him to make her learn Advanced Magic on her Adventurer Card. Recalling a prophecy from Vanir before he started out that advised him to carefully consider his choice, Kazuma instead upgrades her Explosion, which the overjoyed Megumin accordingly casts. As Kazuma carries her back, he reminises on how he wants the strongest Wizard, before grading her mighty Explosion with extra points.
