On what basis is North Korea “legitimate”?

It’s not the expression of Korean national sovereignty or independence.

It’s an entirely redundant and unnecessary state, an artificial creation of the Soviet Union. Its flag is just generic Communist symbolism, rather than anything actually Korean. Kim Il-Sung purged all the Workers Party members who had actually stayed behind in Korea to fight the Japanese. Far from being fiercely independent, for most of its existence it was utterly dependent on welfare handouts from not only the Soviet Union, but even, in an especially pathetic shame, from Maoist China, itself an apocalyptically failed basked case. It’s still not self-reliant to this day, unable to feed its own people, and needing UN food aid. It still exists now only because Communist China wants it as a buffer zone.

It’s not the expression of the Korean people.

Ukraine has had to exert every effort just to halt the Russian invasion, and is struggling to try to expel it. For coal? Ukraine has plenty, and even if it didn’t, buying it would be far cheaper than trying to conquer RUSSIA to get some. Nuclear power? Ukraine already has it.
