Long Summary[]
The chapter opens with Usopp and Chopper introducing the concept of the art: the Straw Hat Pirates land on an island and search for gold. They discuss what they could use the gold for, such as covering the Thousand Sunny in cannons.
On Kuraigana Island, Roronoa Zoro begs Dracule Mihawk to teach him the Death Wink, to Perona's shock. However, Mihawk simply tells him that he doesn't know the Death Wink, to Zoro's confusion. Suddenly, Emporio Ivankov appears behind Zoro, and says that only he can teach the Death Wink; he uses it on Zoro, who wakes up on the Sunny. He notes that he had another nightmare, wondering who Ivankov was and what the Death Wink is.
As he sits up, he notices the rest of the crew is gone, and asks Robin where they went. She explains that they went to a nearby island that was rumored to have gold, but Zoro had already fallen back asleep; he sleep talks nonsense, and she wonders what he could be dreaming about.
On the nearby island, the Straw Hats begin their search for the gold. They are joined by Trafalgar Law, to his annoyance. Nami instructs Law and Chopper to begin digging for the gold, but Luffy and Usopp convince her that it's not efficient, so she makes them stop. Before they continue their search, Law asks to confirm how they're going to split the gold. He offers a 50/50 split between the Straw Hat and Heart Pirates, and Nami accepts. She offers to store everyone's gold for them, and before Law can protest, Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper vote to do that, overriding Law's complaints.
Meanwhile, Franky, Sanji, and Brook try to find clues to the gold, when the pirates are approached by an envoy from the Arabasta Kingdom led by Vivi. She explains that they came to search for the gold as well, and upon the Straw Hats' concerns for her safety, introduces them to Farafra and Terracotta, who are there to protect her. Noticing Brook and Franky's confusion, the Straw Hats introduce them to Vivi as well. With introductions complete, Vivi informs the Straw Hats of a clue they have for the gold: it "flows in streams". She introduces them to Gedatsu, who apparently knows where to find the gold, and they begin following him.
While traversing the island, the Straw Hats suddenly collapse, unable to breathe. Caesar Clown then reveals himself, explaining that he removed the oxygen from the atmosphere around them. He notes that only Usopp, Vivi, and Karoo are outside the boundary, and Usopp tries to pretend he's suffocating, though Caesar sees through it. However, Vivi comes up with a plan to fight Caesar, and Usopp launches a Bakusui Boshi at him; while Caesar gloats that it doesn't work on him due to his Devil Fruit, Vivi uses it as a distraction to hit him with her Peacock Slashers. The attack is ineffective, however, due to his Logia powers, and he launches gas at her, which she absorbs with a Breath Dial.
Annoyed, Caesar combined with Shinokuni, prepared to kill Vivi. However, she had drawn him away from the rest of the pirates, who were able to recover from their lack of oxygen; Luffy and Law quickly defeated him, and the pirates began using him as a hot-air balloon to fly across the island. Upon reaching the location where the gold was hidden, they met the Dirt Boss, who dug it up for them. When he reached it, a burst of water shot upwards, and Gedatsu explained that the island was famous for its hot springs, the most famous of which is called the "Golden Hot Spring" (
With the hot spring now available, Franky and the Forest Boss built a bathhouse, and the pirates take a bath. Sanji tries to convince Law to send him to the women's bath using his Devil Fruit, though Law declines. Over on the women's side, Nami laments not finding actual gold, but is cheered up by being reunited with Vivi. The princess suddenly notices the men looking over into their bath, and Terracotta uses Happiness Punch, charging the men 200,000,000 each. Sanji falls from the shock, hitting his head on the floor and causing a puddle of blood to form.
