Long Summary[]
The chapter opens with Usopp and Chopper introducing the concept of the chapter, explaining that they will be reenacting the legend of Momotarō.
The story opens on a small house, inhabitated by an old couple. Chopper, watching the reenactment, gets excited at the story beginning.
Inside the house, the old man, Garp, and old woman, Dadan, get into an argument. Garp goes to gather wood in the mountains, and Dadan goes to the mountains to become a bandit, to Chopper's shock. Elsewhere, in the river, the Gomu Gomu no Mi floats along, and Chopper points out that it's supposed to be a peach. With nobody there to pick up the Gomu Gomu no Mi, it floats out to sea, ending the story. As Chopper panics over the story ending it prematurely, two young boys, Ace and Sabo, retrieve the fruit, to Chopper's relief. Suddenly, Momotarō Luffy bursts out of the fruit, shocking the two boys.
Unsure how to react, the two boys reseal the fruit, tape it shut, and set it out to sea again. However, Momotarō Luffy begs them to be friends, and the two boys accept. Learning that he wants to defeat the oni of Onigashima, the three brothers train in the mountains and with their adopted father. Over the days and weeks, they grow to be strong, and Momotarō Luffy eventually sets out to defeat the oni. As he leaves, Dadan gives him dango to tame animals.
He runs into a Blue Pheasant, Red Dog, and Yellow Monkey that he attempts to befriend; however, intimidated by them, Luffy ran away. He instead found Zoro the Dog, and after a short argument, recruits him to help. The duo continue traveling, and find Usopp the Monkey. He offers to join their party, but they decline, and the trio begin arguing again. While arguing, they meet Sanji the Pheasant, who initially declines to join due to their party not having any women; however, Usopp the Monkey tells him of rumored women on Onigashima, and he joins immediately.
With their party set up, Momotarō Luffy's group sets off for Onigashima. Upon reaching it, they realize that it is shaped like Oars, and they find the Rolling Pirates already defeated on the island. They are attacked by a swarm of oni, who are revealed to be Zombies, but Zoro the Dog swiftly defeats them. Lola, having been rescued, asks them to defeat Oars, and asks Zoro to marry her. When he declines, she points out that he's been winking at her since they met, and he yells that he's not constantly winking, shocking Chopper as well.
While Momotarō Luffy laughs at the confusion, the three animals suddenly collapse, having gotten food poisoning from the dango they were fed, since Dadan had used her spit to hold them together. Chopper wonders why Momotarō Luffy, who had also eaten the dango, didn't get sick, concluding that it's because of the poison resistance he gained from Magellan; though the narrator points out that Dadan's spit isn't poisonous.
Suddenly, Luffy's party is attacked by Oars, and Chopper panics. He points out that the last time the Straw Hat Pirates fought Oars, Luffy was barely able to defeat him with the help of shadows and the rest of the crew. However, Luffy declares that he can fight Oars by himself, and begins launching attacks. Oars is able to dodge Luffy's attacks, and Usopp the Monkey attempts to distract the Zombie by telling him there's a mountain of meat; the lie also distracts Luffy, however, and Oars attacks him instead.
As Luffy's party is on the brink of losing, Oars is suddenly attacked by Ace and Sabo, who declare that they will protect their younger brother. With Luffy rescued, the three brothers all attack Oars at once, defeating him. They begin collecting the treasure stored on Onigashima, intending to throw a party, when Nami arrives. She claims the treasure for herself, and the narrator asks if the real oni wasn't on their side the entire time instead.
