Good evening and welcome fellow Children of Chaos.
Dark side of the ring season 3 episode 4, the Collision in Korea, I was vaguely familiar with this one, mostly just about the Inoki stuff and how it was a disastrous attempt at a political move for Inoki to get reelected.
It didn't work.
Basically NJPW and WCW did a crossover show in North Korea where the wrestlers were held at gunpoint the whole time, their stuff confiscated passports, walkmen, anything that could have exposed anyone to American or Japanese culture.
Scott Norton was talking about how the only thing to watch was 3 channels of political propaganda and it took 2 hours for the military to agree to let them play billiards, and when someone accidently skipped a ball onto the floor the soldiers watching them forced them back into their room at gunpoint.
The largest show in wrestling, sure is easy to get those numbers when your military and secret police force 170,000 into a stadium or be killed.
Man the dystopia there. Including them placing flowers at the corpse of N. Korea's old leader, once again, at gunpoint.
Also hearing about 2 Cold Scorpio and Road WArrior Hawk's fight, that was new to me as well. Like Hawk and SCorpio get into a fight over Ric Flair of all people. SCorpio made metal chopsticks into a shiv with the intent of "finishing" the fight with HAwk. Jesus, what the fuck? I wonder how much of that was actual heat, and how much of that was stir crazy, and how much of that was drug withdraw and Hawk said he was going through.
This story was nuts and it mostly new info to me. Great episode.
