The Sun Bonnets (Bunny, Bubbles, and Beulah) are a trio of little girl bear singers in the Disney theme park attraction Country Bear Jamboree and its later versions. Originally named after their costumes of choice, the trio would later drop the group name in favor of being referred to individually. Never seen without each other, the triplets perform together in every version of the Country Bears' show, whether as a focus act or as backup vocals. The Bonnets are the youngest members of the bears (excluding Oscar) and are often mistaken for each other. Bunny (the middle bear) seems to be the unofficial "lead" Sun Bonnet, leading the group's performances on multiple occasions.
Background[]
From 1972's Country Bear Jamboree record album:
The Sun Bonnets (Bunny, Bubbles, and Beulah) are the babies of the Country Bear Jamboree. They began singing in Public School 821 in Clint, Texas, in Miss Grizzly’s class. From there they appeared five weeks running on Major Bear’s Amateur Hour and were booked into Walt Disney World. Backstage they study their lessons (all the cast helps them with their homework, but they get good grades, anyway). In their spare time they are all knitting a scarf for Big Albert, which they hope to have finished for Christmas—three years from now!
From the Country Bear Musical Jamboree[1]:
Originally known as The Sun Bonnets, these girls recently turned in their bonnets for Stetsons when they began singing with Trixie around the world, including a sold-out engagement at Royal Ursa Hall.
Appearances[]
Country Bear Jamboree[]
The Sun Bonnets debut in this revue show. Following Terrence's performance, Henry introduces the trio as the girls rise from the center stage, clad in the trademark matching blue bonnets the vocal group is named after. The Sun Bonnets perform a rendition of "All the Guys That Turn Me On Turn Me Down" complete with synchronized dance moves and a magic lantern show behind them. At the end of the show, the girls perform once again, joining the rest of the cast in a performance of "Ol' Slew Foot". In their introduction, Henry implies that the young bears come from Florida.
Country Bear Christmas Special[]
In the Country Bear's special holiday performance, the triplets return, now cladding festive red and green holiday outfits with their names sewn on the front. Bunny (the middle one) establishes herself as the "leader" of the trio, wearing green while the other two wear red. During the show, the Sun Bonnets once again follow Terrence's performance, Bunny beginning their cover of "Sleigh Ride" with Melvin, Buff, and Max providing backup. Once again at the end, the girls rejoin the rest of the cast in a Christmas-themed medley of "Let It Snow", "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer", and "Winter Wonderland".
Country Bear Vacation Hoedown[]
In the bears' summer-themed spectacular, the trio don swimsuits for their performance. Bunny wears a two-piece sailor suit, Beulah wears a floral pink swimsuit, and Bubbles wears a white one-piece with red hearts, complete with a matching towel and heart-shaped sunglasses. Following Romeo's Elvis-inspired number, Bunny leads the girl's performance of "California Girls" (aptly retitled to "California Bears") with piano accompaniment by Gomer and backup vocals by the mounted heads once again. At the end of the show, the girls take part in the cast's cover of "Thank God I'm a Country Bear".
Country Bear Musical Jamboree[]
In the modern iteration of the bears' musical jamboree, the trio returns, no longer referred to as the Sun Bonnets, but rather individually by name. The young bears new wardrobe consists of matching Nashville-inspired white and pink cowboy show outfits made to match Trixie's new costume, complete with bandanas, miniature cowboy hats, and large belt buckles with the letter B engraved. During the show, the trio first perform after Henry's and the Five Bear Rugs' introductory number. Henry seems to confuse the order of the triplets as he introduces them. The triplets accompany Trixie in her performance of "Try Everything" as backup vocals with synchronized dance moves. Per Country Bear custom, the trio of bears reemerge from the center during the finale of the show to join the rest of the bears in a performance of "The Bare Necessities". At the conclusion of the song, the triplets are some of the last bears to leave, and are surprised by the sudden reappearance of Big Al who attempts to restart his cover of "Remember Me".
Spooky "Boo" Parade![]
The Sun Bonnets appear as pumpkin scarecrow creatures on the riverboat float.
Disney Springs Christmas Tree Trail[]
Posters for "Bunny, Bubbles, and Beulah's Beautiful Bonnets" are hung along this trail in the fictitious town of Disney Springs. The poster features one of the girls' silhouettes and state that the brand creates bonnets in the sunshine state.
Hungry Bear Restaurant[]
The "Family Den" restroom area in this restaurant is identified as "The Sun Bonnets' Family Den". The sign for this area features artwork of the trio's faces.
