The Wooden Block is a basic machine block. It is most often used as a structural component of many machine.
Settings[]
This block has no configurable settings.
Behavior[]
Wooden block can be connected in all sides by other machine blocks.
It can be broken in half, is flammable, and freezes at higher altitude.
When trying to break skinned wooden blocks in half, it simply detach from the connection.
Wooden blocks' connections are notably more rigid than many of other structural blocks. It additionally contains secondary trigger at the top side of the block.
This block can be shortened - if placed where half of it will not fit, it will place a shorter version of itself. This is equivalent to the Small Wooden Block, except weaker.
Breaking Wood[]
Wooden block can be broken by the following below:
- Forces acting on the Wooden Block connection exceeding it's Break Force
- Hit by an arrow or axe 3 times
- Burns by fire source
- Freezes at high altitude
When it is broken in half, only the secondary trigger's end gets to be freed. Machine blocks attaching to the Wooden Block will fall off along with the secondary trigger's end. Additionally, the wooden block collider will change during simulation upon breaking.
Strangely, if the wooden block is not attaching to anything, it cannot be broken in half no matter the amount of force. Other machine blocks can attach to the wooden blocksWhen the wooden block is skinned, it cannot be visually broken in half, but it follows all of the behavior previously stated.
Usage[]
It is one of the basic structural blocks; other parts can be attached to it from any side, making it especially useful for building the basic frame of a machine.
It is often reinforced with Braces and to be somewhat protected with Armor.
It is often used in creations where destruction is the main appeal; it is burnable and breakable providing satisfying moments in destruction. Additionally, wooden blocks breaking in half can serve as a visual indication of its primary trigger being broken off.
In modded builds, wooden blocks are replaced with largely scaled non-flammable, non-breakable blocks such as Ballast. However, wooden blocks prove useful in certain niche situations:
- The length is twice longer than it's trigger size, being able to cover over larger area with the same trigger size. Ideal for working with a lot of moving parts.
- The connection are notably more rigid than other structural block, making it an appealing block to use to avoid glitches caused by elasticity despite being flammable or breakable.
- It is often paired with explosive missiles or bomb as a flaming shrapnel.
- Its collider is slightly narrower than it is long, allowing it to be placed flush against moving parts like pistons without colliding.
Despite being perceived as a relatively fragile block, they are surprisingly durable regardless. Meeting the wooden block's criteria to break is not exactly easy to achieve - breaking it's primary trigger requires a force equivalent of a 55x Flying Block power or 550x Water Cannon. In combination of secondary trigger and indestructible wood, it has large tolerances before its failure point.
Trivia[]
- Until v1.05, the Wooden Block and Wooden Pole were tied for the weakest joints in the game, with a break force of 5500. Build Surfaces have since been added, which have a minimum joint break force of only 500.
- The Wooden Block and its variants (and Build Surfaces) are the only blocks that can change it's own collider during simulation (by simply breaking it).
