Chad Anderson’s review published on Letterboxd:
This is an incredible movie. It was great in the theater and it is great on TV. Charlize Theron is an amazing presence that demands her own movie. Tom Hardy was an interesting choice for Max, who is the same character as the other Max, but played deeper and more thoughtful, but also more of a supporting character than the usual center of the previous Mad Max movies. Hugh Keays-Byrne, the Toecutter from the original movie has graduated to Immortan Joe, now commanding an empire of water in his final film role. Nicholas Hoult is a live-bug-eating true believer sprayed with silver paint.
Miller shifts from Max at the center and returns to the long chase that was such a success in the Road Warrior/Mad Max 2, extending it to the entire movie, with a short break to establish the evil empire, a short break to discover Paradise Lost, and a finale to reveal Paradise Regained, watching Max offered a home and a life but slipping away nonetheless because riding the roads is what he does.
