George Miller returns to his Mad Max series for this big budget post-apocalyptic b-movie extravaganza. This film takes everything that was great about the previous three movies and it does it bigger and better - non stop for two hours. The story picks up in a time when the nuclear holocaust has firmly set in; nothing remains except desert and the promise of something better. There's no real plot as such, just a chase across the wastelands. It's pure visual storytelling; just sit back and accept what you see. There's no need for explanations - everything is right there on screen. It's pure adrenaline fuelled mechanical mayhem, complete with pounding drums and electric guitar. Fury Road hits hard in every aspect - every crash, every explosion, every gunshot lands firmly and feels meaningful, nicely covering up for an almost complete lack of substance. In this age of big budget blockbusters and special effects, the only thing left to wonder is why we don't get more movies like this? George Miller really shows us all how it's done. What an amazing spectacle.
