Arnon🪐’s review published on Letterboxd:
This movie was just pure insanity all the way through. From the set pieces, locations, props, costumes, performances, everything was total bonkers. The minute details are what really make this film stand out to me. Every single frame has an interesting ounce of information worth pondering at. Thanks to the color grading, the films visual style really sticks out and makes the setting of the film more real as if everything was in fact, terribly hot which fuels the intensity of every single scene
The cinematography was astounding. It was impressive how it always manages to keep aware and maintain a great focus at every single action scene. Nothing ever feels to out of place and the fact that almost every single stunt, explosion or car flip was practical makes it even better
The performances were another highlight of the film and both Charlize and Tom really shined. Theron brought this angsty yet riddled with good intentions kind of character that made me love her so much. Her name being “Furiosa” makes here even more badass. Both Furiosa and Max were excellent characters. Max was clearly desperate to get out of this situation while Furiosa was more stoic, calm and collected yet both were incredibly skilled and know what they must do and what they’re up against. Immortan Joe was a pretty interesting character as well. Creating this religious dogma of war boys needing to be seen dying in order to reach Valhalla is such an incredible way to easily manipulate them. His dictatorial way made fruit to incredible lines that can come across as social commentary that speak volumes on society today. Nux was great too but what made him incredible was Nicholas Hoult’s performance. After being shut down by Joe, his turn wasn’t really the cleanest if I may say but his development was very good.
The only bad things I can really come up with about the film are probably just nitpicks on logic and physical prowess but it doesn’t really degrade anything critical about the film. Excellent writing, excellent plot, excellent characters and excellent performance make this one hell of a movie.
