Well now that I’ve seen the original trilogy (and wasn’t that big of a fan of it), I can now say that rewatching this movie fucked so hard. I’m not a huge action fan but it’s undeniable how hard this movie goes. The opening 30 alone is easily near the top of my favorite action movie openings ever. My original watch I had literally zero clue as to what Mad Max was and I had just heard it was a dope movie. While it was in fact dope, I did struggle with it essentially being a movie in which they go down a road and then return on the same road. But now understanding the vibe of the series and how bizarre it really is, I’ve come to realize the journey is all that matters and this journey is hardcore. Hardy and Hoult are awesome and this is probably my favorite Charlize Theron character ever. Everything about this film screams different, unique and creative. It’d be impossible to watch a few minutes and not be intrigued as to what’s going on. I mean there is a damn guitar guy vehicle that I just can’t get enough of. The middle does lag a little but it really pays off in the end. Truly amazing that this long awaited entry to a franchise that many would’ve doubted could succeed, ended up kicking so much ass. Right up there with Mission Impossible Fallout for favorite action movie of the decade. What a lovely day
