Such an energetic movie! I continue to pick up on so much detail on each viewing. The set pieces are still stunning with so much appeal while also telling a story through the set pieces. The actions of the characters are used to progress the story and help us learn about the motivations of the characters. How the movie uses visuals to display real-world disasters as a manifestation of the character's personal problems they want to escape is amazing. Tom Hardy is of course great as the strong silent hero Max. Even though he does not say much, there are subtle moments through visuals and dialogue exchanges that help learn about his character and why he decides to help Furiosa. He learns how to develop empathy by trusting and having a willingness to be involved with others, rather than isolating himself. Oh, and OF COURSE Charlize Theron is great as Furisosa! She is doing her best to help others escape a world where they do not have control over their bodies. Furiosa's actions in a movie are a way to convey how women have the ability to restore the world into something better where everyone can be treated equally.
It is amazing seeing Max, Furiosa, and the other characters escape from a patriarchal environment that helps elevate the movie thanks to the great visual storytelling throughout. All the characters feel like outsiders of the dominant male environment, which is why they want to escape. Escaping those whose unchecked masculinity brought upon the destruction of society for their own power. A movie that is not afraid to display the horrors of escaping sexism while presenting why freedom from corrupt systems is needed. Showing how those are expected to be nurturers are capable of being fighters who are ready to work to see a better world. Constantly fighting if it means achieving balance where all can be treated equal.
