THErealBat’s review published on Letterboxd:
"Mad Max: Fury Road" from 2015, directed by George Miller and starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, is a compact film with one of the most impressive film scenes of all time. As I said before, the film has impressive film scenes that amazed me.
To the people who haven't seen the film: Most of the scenes are with cars and fighting, and these scenes where several hundred cars drive over these sausages create simply magnificent images that I personally and probably many others want to see on the big screen. In general, this film has a Super graphics and the set where the film was shot is also simply fanatical.I'm not sure but the more than 100 were probably (not all) done on the computer with CGI and if that's the case then respect.
Tom Hardy plays the main character Max and I think he embodies him really well. I haven't seen the old films so I can't compare this performance with the other films. I am a huge Tom Hardy film buff and I love his films. I haven't seen that many films with him but the ones he's been in I've loved. For example "Venom" or "Venom: Let there be carnage" I think both are great, even if many people say that at least the second one is bad, I think it's very successful.^I think it was also because I watched this film that I found the passion for films, because I liked them so much and the first part was one of my favourites and I still like it a lot. So once again Tom Hardy plays Max fanatically and gives a terrific leading role and acting performance. Charlize Theron, who plays the support role here, also played fanatically and she embodied her character fanatically.
Now to the next point, namely the story. Unfortunately, I have to say that I didn't like it as much as I had hoped/expected. There is no lack of action, there is enough of it in this film, but something was missing for me, so l'm talking about 3/4 of the film now, I'll get to the end in a moment. The beginning starts with a lot of hustle and bustle and you never get Dierkes impression of how this film runs and I also like these scenes very much, but I'll take the middle of the film now. I didn't like it that much and I have to say Sören is rather good. There's good dialogue and a lot of well-inspired action, but somehow I didn't like it there, I don't know why and I've been thinking all this time about what was missing. Don't get me wrong, I'm only talking about the middle of the story, I give the film 4/5 stars.
After the blatant ending which I didn't expect (I mean that positively) and the middle which I unfortunately didn't expect (rather negative but still not bad) I now come to the end.The final half-hour of the movie truly captivated me, especially the ending sequence, which I found to be the highlight. The execution of the incineration scene was flawless, adding a perfect touch to the overall narrative. What struck me the most during this segment was the ideal balance between intense action and moments of respite. The last 5 minutes, in particular, unfolded in an epic fashion, bringing the entire film to a satisfying and cohesive conclusion. One crucial element that significantly contributed to the movie's impact was the musical score.
Tom Holkenborg's soundtrack created an atmosphere of grandeur, intensifying the already gripping battles and chase sequences.
The music played a pivotal role in making these scenes more dynamic and emotionally charged.
Now, let's not forget the characters and their development. The film featured around 6-7 characters that remained central throughout, and their arcs underwent unexpected and profound transformations. This added a layer of complexity to the narrative, making it more engaging and thought-provoking. The characters, each with their unique journeys, contributed significantly to the overall richness of the story.
I almost considered giving the film a 3.5 rating, but the impact of the last few minutes compelled me to reconsider. Reflecting on the intense scenes, well-executed action, and commendable acting, I decided to elevate my rating to a solid 4/5. This movie, with its impressive finale, managed to exceed my expectations and left a lasting impression.
