Destroyer from the Crimson Demon Village (
Plot[]
As the caravan proceeds along the highway through the wilderness, Megumin tells Yunyun how they will reach Axel by lunch tomorrow if things continue smoothly, and upon being chastised for making flag statements, tries to assure her self-proclaimed rival that the chances of being attacked by monsters are quite small especially with them being in such big group, blissfully unaware of Arnes observing them from afar.
The two then bicker over who gets to sit beside the window, until a little girl travelling with her mother offers them her seat, making them stop in embarrassment. When the mother asks about them becoming adventurers, Megumin explains that they will be looking for different parties since having two spell casters in the party will be unbalanced, and upon being identified as Crimson Demons, boasts how she is an Archwizard and a prodigy, which impresses the little girl.
Suddenly the caravan grinds to a halt, before the adventurers guarding it come asking for the Crimson Demon masters' help against the attacking monsters. The flattered Megumin accepts the request, only to be freaked out alongside Yunyun by how disgusting one of the many Giant Earthworms looming over them is. Stopping the panicked Megumin from casting Explosion because it will hit everybody around them, Yunyun shoots a Fireball which defeats the monster in one hit. The impressed adventurers then ask her to deal with the many more Giant Earthworms remaining, thus Megumin decides to leave the rest to Yunyun despite being asked for help.
That evening as the caravan sets up camp, the caravan leader and other travelers express their gratitude to Yunyun who managed to defeat all the Giant Earthworms. After they go to sleep, Yunyun who stands watch tells Megumin how she is happy that she was able to help out and that people relied on her, before confidently declaring her intent to learn Advanced Magic. But just as Yunyun asks Megumin if she can join a party with her, a Giant Bat swoops in to capture Chomusuke. During the ensuing attack by a colony of Giant Bats, Yunyun manages to defeat them alone and rescue Chomusuke, though at the expense of her magical powers. The other travelers again thank Yunyun, with the adventurers even inviting her to join their party, while expressing skepticism over the competency of Megumin who didn't help at all, annoying her so much she decides to go to sleep.
As the caravan continues their journey the following day, Megumin tells the little girl who wondered if she fought monsters at all how her magic is more of a last resort that she keeps for really powerful adversaries, thus she leaves the weak monsters for her underling Yunyun to take care of. But once Megumin assures her that there won't be any more monster attacks, the other adventurers come asking Yunyun for help against a Goblin attack, which leaves Yunyun quite exhausted and almost out of magic.
Just as Megumin confidently declares that there won't be any monster attacks since they are close to Axel, Arnes shows up and attacks the carriages before demanding her hand over Chomusuke or return the money. Having already used up the money yet still refusing to part with Chomuske, Megumin tells Arnes she won't give in to her extortion, as the Axis Order taught her that she can totally ignore or break deals with Demons. The annoyed Arnes, who states that humans can't be trusted as they always make excuses to shirk from paying their part when the deal is done, easily defeats the adventurers who attack her, then points out how Yunyun doesn't have enough magical power left to fight. As Megumin realises how all those monsters were sent at them by Arnes and get incensed because it made people think that she is useless, Arnes is joyous for paying her back for all the humiliation suffered, while convinced about Megumin unable to use magic since she had never cast a spell throughout all the monster attacks.
Megumin accordingly throws Chomusuke far away, prompting Arnes to fly away and catch her, during which Megumin prepares to cast Explosion, only to be stopped by Yunyun since Chomusuke will be killed too. While the two of them argue, Arnes prepares a powerful spell, at which Megumin sees her bracelet which she recognizes it as one of her father's products, and so thanks her for the purchase. Arnes then recalls all the bad luck she had with men due to the bracelet she couldn't take off, thus upon knowing that Megumin was that merchant's daughter, she gets even angrier and powers up her spell. Yunyun starts praying to various gods, stating that if they save them, she will teach Megumin on how to act like a human being. Despite Megumin finding it pointless, Yunyun continues to pray to the nameless evil god sealed in their village, the destroyer gods, divine Eris, and even Aqua the goddess of water.
At that moment, a divine aura shines from the nearby Axel as something godly descends onto this world, which surprises Arnes by its power. Chomusuke accordingly bites the distracted Arnes, who drops her towards the ground where Yunyun catches her just in time. In the meantime, Megumin completes her preparations for her Explosion spell, and upon Arnes realising how she is a real Archwizard introduces herself in Crimson Demon style. She then casts her Explosion against Arnes' Cursed Lightning in a spectacular clash, one where Explosion manages to overpower Cursed Lightning before going through it. As the Explosion heads towards Arnes, she gives one last look at Chomusuke and apologises to her mistress, whom she knows that one day will be restored, following which the Explosion consumes her.
Megumin later wakes up in a carriage, where the caravan leader praises her while the little girl thanks her for saving them. Yunyun then tells Megumin that she is amazing and also to forget about last night, since she knows she will just get in Megumin's way if they are in the same party. As Yunyun declares how she will keep on training and learn Advanced Magic, the two of them are informed that they have arrived at Axel.
