Plot[]
In the morning at school, Yunyun gives her lunch directly to Megumin, stating that she won't be challenging her today and doesn't want Megumin to bother her about it. Pucchin then comes and starts the class. He explains that monsters believed to be minions of the Dark God have been spotted, so they can no longer take it lightly and will be redoing the seal. He then proceeds to review their test results, noting that the top three students will receive skill-up potions. On third place is Nerimaki, then second is Arue and first is Megumin. Megumin is surprised that Yunyun isn't in the top three as she recalls she needed three points to learn advanced magic, while Megumin needed four to learn Explosion Magic. However, Yunyun isn't interested in competing today, which makes Megumin feel something isn't right.
The girls hear that a hero candidate is in the village and get excited. Megumin starts to dream of how she will one day join a hero party and defeat the Devil King, so she can take his place as the new Devil King. As she laughs, Yunyun interrupts her and calls her outside, since she wants to speak with her. Outside, Yunyun explains that while Megumin always asks for things from Yunyun, she never asked for money. Funifura and Dodonko have told Yunyun that Funifura's young brother is sick, and her family doesn't have enough money for medicine. Dodonko then asked Yunyun if she could help them raise money for Funifura's brother. Yunyun feels it’s rude to just give them money and ask Megumin what to do. Megumin explains that she will try finding another solution, like stealing the medicine with her friends, but if they are really in need of money, she would loan them.
Bukkororii then shows up, and since he will be participating in resealing the Dark God, Megumin wonders if it won't be easier if they break the seal and slay the Dark God. Bukkororii states that idea did came up, but it was declined since they had to take the Dark God from another religion and transplant it here and seal him up. Yunyun wonders why they did that in the first place and Bukkororii states it’s because it sounds cool that a Dark God sleeps beneath the village.
Yunyun gives money to Funifura and Dodonko. After she leaves, Megumin shows up and asks them about it, and Funifura explains it’s for her little brother. Megumin wonders why they didn't ask her, and the girls states that she is poor, and it won't feel right. Megumin gets angry, but as they ask her if she can give them money, she denies it, stating she doesn't have any, but explains the problem isn't money, but the medicine. The girls wonders if she has something in mind and Megumin confirms.
Next is their magical item crafting class, where they can improvise and create any potion. Megumin rips up some Mandrakes for ingredients and using them alongside a Fire Drake's liver starts preparing her potion. Arue had finished her already and decided to help out Megumin. Megumin then attempts to take the Duxion, a duck monster, but Yunyun stops her, since the duck looks quite cute. Arue explains they only need the onion on its back and takes it and starts chopping it. Megumin states that she didn't intend to kill the duck, but after hearing from Arue that it’s a gourmet cuisine and that it gives a lot of experience, she quickly snaps the duck's neck. After class, Megumin, now nicknamed the "Duxion Slayer" gives her potion to Funifura and Dodonko, stating it’s a healing potion. Funifura states there is no guarantee that it will work, but Megumin doesn't care and tells them to return Yunyun's money. They give her Yunyun's money and comment that while she is trying to hide it, she and Yunyun seem to be quite good friends. Embarrassed Megumin then attacks them.
Megumin returns the money to Yunyun, who realizes that she made the potion to give it to Funifura. Yunyun then offers to treat her as thanks and takes her to Torosuke's pancake place, however she didn't expect Megumin to eat that many pancakes. On their way back, Megumin wanted to take a break due to overeating. She states she needs one more skill-up potion to graduate, which surprises Yunyun as it was three points yesterday. Yunyun then recalls it’s due to the duxion and Megumin confirms that it leveled her up and gave her two skill points. Yunyun is disappointed as she wanted them to graduate together, which is why she was trying to match their remaining skill points. Megumin then realizes she intentionally didn't place in the top three and scolds her for her stupid decision. Yunyun explains that she didn't want to surpass her, but Megumin gets annoyed and states that she got long ago enough points to learn advanced magic but has no intention to learn it as she is aiming to learn a more powerful magic. Yunyun realizes she is talking about Explosion Magic and states that most people don't have enough magical power to cast it, and even when they manage, they are only able to do it once a day, which is why it’s a joke magic. Megumin is aware of the risks but doesn't care. Yunyun states she is an idiot and not a genius. Megumin then gets angry and starts fighting Yunyun.
Yunyun ends up beating her, but Megumin keeps trying to come up with excuses on why she was weak today. Yunyun wonders if there is another reason, she is obsessed with Explosion Magic. Megumin then explains that when she was young, she was attacked by a magic beast. A mage then showed up and killed the beast with Explosion Magic. Seeing the destruction and the power of the magic, Megumin lost interest in any other magic. Once she learns Explosion Magic, Megumin intends to find the mage and asks her what she thinks of the magic she taught her. Megumin intends to leave once she graduates, and Yunyun wonders if she will be travelling alone as she will need someone to look after her after she uses the magic and becomes helpless for the remaining of the day. A duxion then shows up and seeing it, Megumin goes and snaps its neck. The village alarm then rings and the two see demons approaching. Megumin is surprised as the Dark God was supposed to be resealed. She then runs home to look after Komekko, but sees that Komekko is missing, and the house was attacked.
