A Conclusion to This Worthless Fight! (このろくでもない
Synopsis[]
Dullahan, a top leader in the Devil King's Army, yet again appears at the city in a frenzied rage.
Plot[]
Kazuma blows up at Megumin and Aqua when he learns they had been continuing the daily Explosion exercises at the Abandoned Castle. Beldia expresses his rage at them letting Darkness die from his curse. Darkness, deeply flattered at his referring to her as "a model knight", steps forth, giving Beldia a big shock at seeing her still alive. Aqua laughs at his failure to realize that his curse was dispelled, before casting Turn Undead, which has a painful effect on the Dullahan.
Surprised to meet someone as powerful as her in Axel, Beldia summons an army of Undead Knights and orders them to slaughter the city's inhabitants. The Undead Knights chase Aqua instead, since they instinctively seek salvation from a goddess. Aqua and Kazuma run at Beldia before jumping clear so that Megumin can cast Explosion on all the Undead grouped together, earning her new nicknames from the other adventurers.
Beldia survives the Explosion. A band of adventurers attack him. Beldia throws his head in the air to observe the whole battlefield and cut them all down. With the city's trump card Mitsurugi weaponless, Darkness charges forward to stop Beldia's advance, yet misses with every attack. Beldia's attacks rend her armour and clothes, making Darkness go into another fantasizing fit. Kazuma seizes the chance to Create Water that Beldia dodges before Freezing him in place, but he then fails to Steal his sword because of their differences in levels.
Kazuma remembers that Undeads are vulnerable to water, so he starts Creating Water with the other mages. As Beldia dodges the water, at Kazuma's persuasion Aqua casts Sacred Create Water, summoning a flood powerful enough to damage the city's outer walls. Kazuma Steals from the weakened Beldia and obtains his head, following which Aqua purifies Beldia away. Darkness prays for the adventurers slain in the battle, only to find to her embarrassment that they had already been Resurrected by Aqua.
The next day at the Guild, the adventurers are drinking in celebration. Kazuma tells his party that now that they have acquired wealth, he intends to return to being a shut-in. Luna informs him that his party is awarded a special reward for defeating Beldia, but they also have to pay for the flood damages to the city, which plunges them into heavy debt, reigniting Kazuma's determination to defeat the Devil King so he can escape this world.
Characters[]
Differences to other versions[]
- In the light novel, the furious Beldia stops himself before slamming his own head on the ground. In the anime, Beldia gets so mad at Kazuma's party, he slams his head on the ground and nearly doesn't catch it as it flies over his body.
- In the light novel, a group of Undead Knights accompany Beldia to Axel and for a while fight with the adventurers within the city. In the anime, they are summoned with magic outside the city walls but end up doing no fighting.
- Megumin is exhausted after she used Explosion to take out all the Undead Knights' underlings. In the light novel, she tries to attack the Axel adventurers when they compliment her, but referred to her as "Crazy Girl." In the anime Megumin just asks Kazuma to remember the adventurers faces, so she can take her revenge on them later.
- After Beldia cuts down the attacking adventurers in the light novel, he curses the mages trying to cast spells at him, as well as defies the attempts from other thieves helping Kazuma to steal his sword.
- In the light novel, Aqua defeats the weakened Beldia after Darkness cuts through part of Beldia's armor. In the anime, they had already established Darkness' extraordinary ability to miss stationary targets, so they changed the plot into that Beldia was severely weakened and could be defeated by Sacred Turn Undead.
