Mongolia is a country in east Asia that borders Russia and China.
Magical games and sports[]
Like in many Asian countries, Quidditch did not gain the level of popularity in Mongolia that it had in European nations, due to the preference of flying carpets over broomsticks.[1]
Magical history[]
When Severus Snape substituted for Remus Lupin for a short while in teaching Defence Against the Dark Arts during the 1993–1994 school year, he claimed that Kappas were primarily found in Mongolia.[2] However, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them states that Kappas were from Japan, a fact Harry Potter made note of in his copy of the book.[3]
A delegate from Mongolia was a member of the International Confederation of Wizards, and participated in the meeting held at the Magical Congress of the United States of America on 6 December 1926.[4]
Behind the scenes[]
In discussing the scene from the film inspired by Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in the Pentagram Office, Colin Farrell praised Colleen Atwood's costuming: "There must have been two hundred actors and extras all in the different costumes. Wizards from Hungary, from Mongolia, from Russia, from Thailand, from Ireland, and from Pakistan. It was amazing. They all had culturally relevant garb but with a little wizarding flourish."[4]
