Mexico, also known as the United Mexican States and formerly known as New Spain, is a country in southern North America. It is bordered by the United States in the north and by Guatemala and Belize in the southeast.[1]

Josefina Calderon, a 17th century witch and Healer who became the wife of Chadwick Boot (one of the founders of Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry), was a Mexican.[2]
The Mexican National Quidditch team made it to the final of the Quidditch World Cup in 1809. They were winning when Niko Nenad, a Beater for the opposing Romanian team, purposefully hit a Bludger into the nearby forest. The trees, which Nenad had jinxed earlier, sprang to life and attacked the stadium, causing several injuries and deaths, including Nenad's.[3]

- While Josefina Calderon was described as a 17th-century Mexican witch, present-day Mexico was officially the Spainish colony of New Spain until 1821 when Mexico achieved its independence.[1] It is unclear if this history differs in Rowling's universe or if Josefina's description refers to a less specific notion of being Mexican present during this time such as the developing separate culture or being from a more specific region such as municipality of Mexico City (México Tenochtitlán or Ciudad de México) established in the 1500s.[1]
