MS SCI 102 - Teaching Science in The Elementary Grades Jervyn E. Guianan II-A Lesson 6 Activity 1. Answer The Following Questions Below

The document discusses teaching strategies for science classes, noting that experimentation is best for introducing new topics as it allows students to gather their own understanding, but it has limitations like a lack of materials or proper conditions. It also discusses the advantages of collaborative learning like pooling ideas, but notes limitations such as some students learning at different paces or having communication issues that could slow a group down.

Jervyn E. Guianan II-A

Lesson 6

Activity 1.
Answer the following questions below:

1. When should the teacher use experimentation as a strategy to deliver a certain

topic in class?
Answer:
Experimentation allows the students to gather their own
understanding of the topic, therefore experimentation is a good way to
introduce new topics or ideas, also it a better way to examine our thoughts
about the idea that causes a problem with the students.

2. What are the limitations of experimentation as a teaching strategy?

Answer:
The most important limitation of an Experimentation is that, even
the research is prepared, or the class has been prepared, taught on what
to do but, the other variables are not present at the moment, such as
school funding to provide the materials needed, the conditions needed,
time and timing, also the availability of materials.

3. What are the advantages of using collaborative learning as a strategy in class?

Answer:
When I am still studying in Divine Word College of Legazpi my
professor said to our class that no one ever graduates in DWCL
engineering department alone, or having no buddies. Well his idea
certainly proves right, I do believe that in group students can learn with
their fellow students or peer learning, also a saying says “two brains is
better than one,” yes collaboration of ideas is a better way of constructing
analysis. Each person in a collaborative activity can contributes or can act
in his/her own way thus making improvement to the group, making it more
efficient.

4. What are the limitations of collaborative learning as a strategy in class?

Answer:
Just like in classrooms we all know that not all the students can
cope up with the lesson, this also implies in a collaborative activities or
learning, people learn at different speed, not all of the student has the
same high caliber intelligence that can boost the group, he or she can be
dragged that can affect the whole group. Also in collaborative learning,
some person may struggle, such as those who is clinically diagnosed with
communication disorder or such as autism and not only those but, some
persons are introvert or social loafer.
