DH's birthday yesterday, so GD and I made a real summer cake - mmm! We made a vanilla cream and strawberry jam filling. Birthday boy was very pleased.
GD got her uncle (son #2) and his girlfriend out to play. I just had to have proof of this!
GD thinks her uncle needs to practice more ... he kept tripping the rope.

One for him ..
The grandchildren are going on holiday later on and I thought I'd make a cross-over bag for each of them for their bits and pieces; sunglasses, sweets, DS etc.
I used son #2's old jeans - the back pocket was just right for the pocket on the bag. (Inspired by Jenny)
This one is for "him" - my little Jedi (the badge didn't come out too good on the photo) - he is a Star Wars fan, so I think he will like this touch.
Now it's a few days since this was finished, and I was just going to make dinner before I started on "hers" - ( while in the flow). So I opened a tin of tomato beans and the lid stuck ... you can probably guess the rest. Yes, I tried to pry it open with my finger. And at the very moment I cut myself, I thought "this is not a good idea". Too late! A nasty, deep cut in the tip of my right index finger and did it bleed! Do you know how much you need your index finger! It has been so tender I have had to keep away from sewing, knitting.
So I have been reading and tidying cupboards (!) and sunning myself. My finger is healing ok, but is tender if I put pressure on it - going to try a little sewing today as the sun has taken a break.
Will be back with "hers" !

Hooked on hexies
We had a full house again this weekend. The grandkiddies like their nan to take part in whatever they are up to, so not much time for sewing or the likes. I did manage to read a few blogs and someone mentioned Ravelry. So I had a peek ... and another .... and another. What a lot of fun patterns!
I was drawn to these African flower hexies. I haven't made these before. Just right for using up my stash of cotton yarns. And perfect for picking up inbetween washing doll's clothers, running (I wish) after loose dogs and getting the BBQ ready.
I'm still sewing hexagons for whatever it'll be. I know I'm meant to be doing Christmas gifts this month, but I think maybe the sun is making me think of summery projects instead.

Help?
I'm having trouble posting with Picassa/Google again. Last post showed photo (in the end) but no text to go with it.
I get a message thet "url has illegal characters" but I can't find anywhere that has anything but my original url.
Anyone experienced this? Pleased for any suggestions, because writing the same post 5 -6 times is getting boring.
Photo in last post: 1st gifts for my Christmas box. Tablemats for hot plates etc. I cut red and black felt in circles and chain sewed them together. The picture doesn't show that the top layer of red wool has sequin-things in it, so they glitter!
Plus: easy and quick to make
Minus: Wool dust everywhere (pardon my sneezing)
I'd like to make some in thinner wool but more layers/colours.

Lovely weekend
I had the most relaxing weekend!
DH hosted an EFT-workshop in Skei - about 4 hours drive further north from where we live. It is a beautiful valley and the weather was at it's best.
The hotelroom had a veranda so I could sit in the sun. And I had some work with me, a stitchery and hexagons, a good book and a magazine. Perfect! I must admit I didn't get an awful lot of sewing done, but the book was fun.
I went for a little walk (still on crutches so I don't venture far!) - and I found a Christmas shop! Skei is a typical stop for tourist coaches. No wonder there was a shop selling typical Norwegian handmade items - leather and knitware, jewellery, pewter and of course "nisser" our little xmas gnome. There were some really beautiful things - and I picked up a few ideas for gifts. (Yes Judith - I will show you when I'm done :) )
