Holidays

This is the view from my in-laws garden in Svelgen. We are here for the first week of our holiday. And the rain has poured down every day! I went out a few minutes ago when there was a glimpse of sun to take a few photos. As you can see we are surrounded by high mountains.

Filix enjoying a glimpse of sun. The dogs love it here as mother-in-law can't resist
big brown eyes.

And she is always in the kitchen making something good for us to eat.

I love the colour of these flowers. Have already finished the stitcheries I had brought with me, (2 boms) so I only have some knitting left. But tomorrow we are going to the nearest town (53km) and maybe I will find something to sew there.

Christmas in August challenge

It's Di's idea (quiltingisblissful). The challenge is to make 3 Christmas somethings in August.
Well, I usually get all Christmassy around September/October, but then I also usually end up with some ideas for "next year". So maybe if I start now.....
The hobby shop closest to me seemed to underline this idea - lots of pretty Christmas fabrics all cut and ready. So I couldn't help myself.
I really love the second from bottom green - it has small Christmas puds on it (my favourite food). But what to make? The ideas leftover from last year have vanished completely from my head! Time to start on my Christmas collection then....
I have collected Christmas magazines for years - you know, the special edition ones with all the fabulous ideas for making your home the prettiest.
Here is a glimpse of a small portion of the collection. I think I saw one from 1986 among these...
I just love browsing through them - and the collection is getting so big now that maybe it is a good idea to start in August.
Oh, my pc woke up again! I thought I'd give it a go before taking it to the docs - and it worked perfectly. Second son, who knows about these machines, thought it might have overheated!
So that means more work and less play (blogreading) in the future. :o)

The terminator...

is ME!
I was sooo optimistic today - visitor (youngest son) gone back home, which meant sewing room free of clutter and ready to use. I finished the stitcheries and had got fabrics out for new cushion covers (well, it is time to take away the xmas ones now even if granddaughter loves them).
I did want plain material for the "frame", but had nothing in the right colour - and the cushion covers were going to be made TODAY!
But something seemed wrong - the sewing machine made new clicking noises - no not the needle.... and then it started sewing in spurts ...hm - not good.
I took apart the bits I can take apart and brushed and blew out any dust. Then I realised that the fabric feeder was down and wouldn't come up. Time for a check-up at Husqvarna I think.
But I would not be put off, so I got out my backup machine and finished the cushion covers!

Here they are at last

The stitcheries are called Country Roses designed by Jenny of Elefantz. Fun to stitch!
So the next step was to blog! I have another FINISH! July is getting to be a good month!
So I went to load my photos onto my pc, but it froze. So I switched off and on - and guess what!
NO picture - NO action at all! Just a black screen!
Want a closer look at my pretty cushions? Here...

and here.
Just don't tell my dearest that I have used his rather new mini pc to get this post out to you!

And maybe I should say cheerio for now - before I terminate this machine, too! Bye!

I'm home!!

I've been on holiday with the grandchildren for a week or so. We went to visit my sister who lives in the south of Norway. We had a great time and lovely weather for the first half of the trip.

The town has a famous amusement park and zoo. We used two days there. One of the big attractions is a pirate and his ship. And my sister and the kiddies were "crew" for a trip round the island.
Plenty of fun things to do.... and opportunities to use up energy!

I did pack some stitcheries to do, but haven't done much ..... too worn out in the evenings. I did a little knitting ... the ribbing of a cardie for my granddaughter, but when I nearly got to the end I found out I had the wrong size and had to start all over again.... so I think I can say my brain was switched off at times!
The kids were picked up yesterday and it seems so quiet without them around. Although the dogs make up for most of it, they won't leave my side now. So now I am going to try and catch up on my sewing.
Have a nice day!

Good start for July

I've finished my sister's birthday present ! Tote bag and make-up purse to match. The day isn't until August, but on Saturday I'm packing the grandchildren :-) and we are flying down to stay with my sister for a week. So I'm taking the present with me and she can have it now to use when she goes on holiday.

The children are so excited as they can't remember being on a plane. And it gives them a chance to get to know part of the family they seldom see.

And here is grandson's jumper .. he picked the colours himself, so I hope he likes it. It's cotton, so just right for summer. At the moment it's so hot here, he only needs shorts and sun block! But best to be prepared as we never know how long it will last, so I must pack a little of this and a bit of that.

And I'm going to trace the latest Shabby Roses and a couple of Jenny's blocks in another colour to take with me. Can't have idle hands for a whole week!!
