That first close up of Grace Kelly is world-shaking

]]>Be groovy or leave, man
]]>“Want a Bugle?” - Johnny Cash
]]>You watch this and think maybe the effectiveness of the shower scene has been diluted after sixty years of endless parodies, references, and increasingly gruesome slashers. No. It’s every bit as shocking and exquisitely crafted, and most of all goddamn scary.
]]>“Is your year long Godzilla marathon finally over?”
[breaks down crying and nods]
Happy New Year!
]]>Watched on Tuesday December 31, 2024.
]]>The way Lisbeth says “hey hey” when she walks into a room is so precious to me
]]>Feel like this whole trilogy could have been shortened to just one movie. Kinda dug its take on Ghidorah as this unexplainable cosmic entity though, some of the imagery involving him is pretty cool.
]]>Jaume is cooking again and cinema is better for it
]]>Come for the exhilarating fight sequences, stay for the spectacular production design. A truly invigorating action film. When Louis Koo flicks his cigarette into the air, flips someone over and breaks their arm, then flies back onto his feet to catch the cigarette before it hits the floor, you know you’re watching something special.
]]>Don’t worry, Godzilla barely appears and Mechagodzilla is a city now. They tease Mothra yet she’s nowhere to be found. Exciting!
]]>Meowry Christmas
]]>Willem Dafoe laughing maniacally while surrounded by flames is my favorite image of the year
]]>You can hear the Kill Bill sirens going off in Billy’s head every time he sees something Santa related
]]>It’s impossible to watch this without thinking of the TV edit. The guy who dubbed Bruce Willis didn’t even try to sound like him. They should include this version in the eventual 4K release.
“Colonel Stuart, could we have a few words, please?”
“You can have two: Joke and You”
Watched on Sunday December 22, 2024.
]]>Has a pretty fascinating premise that is unfortunately executed in the most mediocre fashion. The last scene and the end credits song are pretty good though!
]]>Some movies just don’t need to exist
]]>Felt like I was hallucinating when the whole movie stopped so the double Jim Carreys could have a laser dance number
]]>Watched on Wednesday December 18, 2024.
]]>when the old man hugs his granddaughter and the John Williams score kicks in 😭
]]>In a career full of unhinged performances, this might just rank near the top for ol’ Jim. I honestly forgot Sonic was even in the movie at one point. This is all Robotnik and Carrey is devouring every bit of scenery. The man is playing air guitar with his own leg!
]]>“No, i’ll be right back. You’ll still be in the kitchen.” is so dark yet so fucking funny
]]>“You can’t bench press your way out of this one.”
Phil Hartman fucks
]]>Watched on Friday December 13, 2024.
]]>There’s this part where Alessandro Nivola just stops and randomly makes this weird sound for a few seconds and then continues the scene like nothing happened. This never happens again the rest of the movie. It was kinda beautiful to witness.
]]>Watched on Wednesday December 11, 2024.
]]>I like how the cure for werewolves is called Moonscreen
]]>I love googly eyed Godzilla

]]>There is a moment
]]>This movie being so scary almost overshadows the fact that the fellatio joke is absolutely hysterical
]]>“Never thought I’d die next to a rap rocker.”
“How about next to a homie?”
I’m just here to watch Rachel Zegler hack computers in an oversized hoodie
]]>Watched on Wednesday December 4, 2024.
]]>Weirdly paced and doesn’t quite have the charm of an Out of Sight or Ocean’s Eleven, but it’s vibey enough to chill out with. Solid movie star chemistry, good music, nice clothes. Fun!
]]>Watched on Monday December 2, 2024.
]]>The high-pitched scream the TMZ guy lets out after flying off his motorcycle is perfect
]]>“Listen kid, there are two things you don’t know about the Earth. One is me. And the other is…Godzilla.”
Hyperactive cinema. Maybe the most a movie has ever movie’d. Every five minutes something insane happens. Mutant humans, motorcycle fu, Godzilla plays soccer. So 2004 that everything is blown out and there’s nu-metal on the soundtrack. Don Frye has a sick mustache. Masterpiece.
]]>Watched on Friday November 29, 2024.
]]>Dares to ask “what if there were three Mothras?”
]]>You can actually feel yourself forgetting this movie as you watch it. The “villain” is completely useless lmao.
]]>MAD MOANA: FURY OCEAN
]]>Watched on Monday November 25, 2024.
]]>Watched on Sunday November 24, 2024.
]]>That shot of Kiryu against the sunset is so sick. Also has one of the coolest opening scenes in the series. The mood, the rain, the destruction, it’s perfect.
]]>Bill Paxton floating down from the sky on an umbrella: “Somebody ring the dinkster?”
[rapturous applause]
[audience loses their minds]
[theater collapses]
Denzel’s delivery of “that my friend is politicsss” is why he’s the greatest
]]>Walked in a little skeptical but by the time Elphaba and Glinda do their little ballroom dance I was won over. A massive, rousing blockbuster spectacle. Ariana Grande a genuine comedic force?
]]>“You’re taller than you look.”
“I hunch.”
“Don’t.”

]]>"Welcome to Showdown Vol. II: The Bride of Showdown! This one is going to have some of you as giddy as Phoenix Buchanan running loose in a costume-hire shop. We want your top ten movie sequels of all time. Which films did it better than the original? Which sequel perfectly captured the mood of its ancestor/s? Which follow-up left its cinematic parent in the dust? The rules: at least one (and preferably more) of the core cast must return in a chronological continuation of the original story (so Fury Road out, Toy Story 3 in). It’s not an impossible mission; try to complete it before sunset."

]]>"Houston, we have a problem: we’re searching for the very best space movie of all time. Anything set in space, or on a non-Earth planet qualifies (brief Earth-based action is allowable, but what we’re really after is ships, planets and the cold, dark reaches of space). So, science the shit out of your list, prepare for launch and remember: no one can hear you scream. Meet you in the Cantina next week to swap notes."
